The election of President Obama has brought all the rats out of the sewers. But what I always think is how horrible it would be to be filled with that kind of hatred. My Mom always told us that hate hurts the hater not the hated. How lucky we are. We can be friends with any one we want. Hopefully we are trying to follow Dr. King's directions and " judge each other by the content of their character and not the color of there skin."
i heard about her tragic death at school and i thought it was very brave of her to go and fight for something she believed in and deeply cared about. we are very thankful for what she has done to make this country better and united. sorry for the lose and god bless you and your family. since i heard about her helping the march i pray and thank her for her help without her i wouldnt have meet my wonderful friends. great woman and her name will always be in the heros history book.
Thank you so much for sharing the story of your mother. What amazing courage she and so many others exhibited during that very difficult time in our nation's history. Mmother and I will be visiting Selma a year from now. Thank you for helping us remember and celebrate the sacrifices so many made for voting rights in America. Peace to you and your family,
I'm actually doing a project for junior year on your mother and her story really stuck out to me I attend a design school and were doing a Civil Rights project- art gallery based. I'm personally doing a short film. I will post the results of our art gallery once we have it.
As a blackman I had deep angry feelings toward all white people at one time,Now that I have embraced Islam I thank Allah that my heart has changed.I love Viola Liuzzo, she was not a white woman, she was a good woman.May God have mercy on here and keep her in Paradise.God bless her children your Mother is worthy of Honor.I`m just now learning of her & I will tell others about her
Mary... I just watched "Home of the Brave" and took to the internet to find out more. Your wonderful Mother and your family have all my respect and love.
I am a teacher and show the documentary Home of the Brave to my students every year. Thanks to you, your mom, sisters, brothers, and extended families. Your mother's death was not and wil never be in vain. As an African American born after 1965, I always make sure I exercise my right to vote and I take my children with me to the polls whenever I can.
I make sure at least 40 students a year for thelast four years know your moms and families legacy. Thank you,
Beautiful job, Mary. May your family continue to feel the steady, warm waves of love and support from millions, worldwide. Bless you and yours, always ~
Thank you for sharing this video Mrs. Viola Liuzzo can not be forgotten your Mother sacrificed her own life to give justice to those who where not given the same rights she did not have to be there but she was . I will forever remember her I will share this story of such a brave women who knew the risk of what her fate might be by standing up for those less fortunate then herself.
My church is celebrating Black History Month with monologues presented by different church members. I'm originally from the Detroit area and decided to commemorate Mrs. Viola Liuzzo. I have learned so much about her.
It is an honor for me to help others know and remember what your mother did for all of us. The picture of her marching without her shoes is so moving.
May we always remember the brave sacrifice of people such as your mother. We spend so much time focusing on those who die overseas, yet those who gave their lives here in defense of freedom remain overshadowed. A grateful nation can never thank your family enough for your sacrifice!
I worked for the Butler County court reporter when this case went to court. in Lowndes County. That county did not have a court reporter so they borrowed the one from Butler County. My co worker did most of this case. I got in on the tale end of it. My major role was the case of the priest killed in Fort Deposit. I made a mistake while typing and started to rip out the page when my boss told me not worry about it. He said, "trust me, no one will ever read this. I still wonder what that meant.
I just read a book about her and though her sacrifice was great not only for losing her life but having to leave her family, I don't feel she died in vain. Though I was very young during all this history, I am wondering why we didn't hear more about her sacrifice. She was her own woman and allowed others to be their own person without persecution. She is an angel now, and you keep the faith and you will see her again. I can't wait to meet her in heaven.God bless and keep you and yours.
thank you so much for this video. i just watched the documentary Home of the Brave, and it was very moving and inspirational. Please know that you and your family's sacrifice is valued and has not been forgotten. May your mother sing with the angels and be blessed forever
I posted a chalice on my Facebook wall in memory of Viola today, along with a short discription of her martyrdom. I wish the news media would to more to remember her contribution on this date.
What I don't understand is why nothing about this is in history books. I guess the government feels like that would be giving them a bad image for kids or something since the FBI is involved. I think people should know and should know the truth about. There should be more videos like this.
@sturmfurrer I feel you have the right to speak, so please would you explain the hatred why you feel the way you do towards this woman and the hurtful comments. This woman drove miles and walked without shoes for something she believed in, whether you or I have an opinion that may differ I know in my heart why I feel the emotions that I do but I do not understand yours. You have the right to speak your mind, so please speak it, I don't understand why one would say she deserved to die. Thank you.

She must have smiled on the evening of November 4, 2008. If not for her, there might not have been a Barack Hussein Obama.
