Great guide mate! Me and my freind have been trying to lower his p2 106 gti but it aint going no where, i will use it again when i come to lower mine further! Does this method not fubar the bearings like the splines method because surely this is doing virtually the same to the bearings?
Very informative. We have a s1 rally car, got a recon axle that was too high, udjusted it to a normal height and fuck me its got 6 inches of free bounce with shoks and everything bolted back up. The shocks are Bilstein motorsport and in good nick, these axles are over engineered for what they do, we 've been trying all day t set this up right but still not anywhere near done, Do the torsion bars need to be forcing aginst each other ?
Cheers mate! good video...helps a lot! BUT you should tape a flashlight to your camcorder so that parts that are dark will brighten :D thanks again for sharing.
Nice videos :D one question tho, that doesnt seem overly difficult (well youve made it look relatively easy lol) so why does my local motormania not offer the service of lowering just because of the torsion bar? he said if you do it wrong you can end up just dropping the rear of the car, i assume by not slotting it into one of the holes or something :S so why :P lol
well, once you have the torsion bars out you put them back in selecting a spline position higher up closer to the car. that way it will sit closer to the ground.
great, thanks. I don't wanna waste your time, but can you write steps for this job, like number 1: take the wheel off... :) I would appreciate it Thanks
Thats ok then i have 17's on mine im doin the torsion as I speak just trying to get the other washer out of the end everythings running smoothly at the moment fingers crossed
This is a great vid really helpful, im going to lower my phase 3 this weekend hopefully everything will run smoothly but i have a few questions. do your wheels rub on the arches and do the torsion bars stiffen up once you've lowered them? Thanks
man you are a legend ,this is a great vid,ill be using it in the next week or two when im off,i reckon ill drop her (my 106) 60mm,but ive a feeling everythings gonna be tight as a nun. Thanks for the help bud. :)
Hi im in cambone and seen your car about a few times, but hears my question. on the back one side is lower than the outher ive never lowered it and don't want to but do u recon like me that someone may have had it apart for someression and not put it backtogether right meaning that it leans on one side. (its a good 2-3inches lower on the left than on the right) thanks Matt
Hi mate, suprised uve seen me, never drive out that way! Its possible, but have u cheked for camber at all, do the wheel lean inwards at the top at all? Check that first...
that was quick i saw u up around st austel way when i was comming back from chris vinchents, and its not unusual for me to be up that was, i checked the camber as i have seen them at work with a lot of camber on one side with the surspenchion lower on that side and usully that means that the brass bush is gone meaning new back axceal usally, but my camber is even and there is very little of it and when i jack it up to check the bush for the trailing arm that sceamed to be ok
cheers for this video, im concidering doing this myself. a mate of a mates quoted me £150 for all around lowering but i dunno if this is a rip off or just me being stingy? whats your opinion?
Tbh thats not bad, i mean its a fair bit of work front and back, thats less than a garage would want, i say , if your confident, have a go yourself, if you cant do it, go to ur mate, u wont find a better deal at a garage
really interseting but a really clear giude mate this helped me alot i am 16 an have a peugeot 106 that i am doing up for next year an this helped me alot an car is now lowerd 40 mm but i might go lower i dont no yet lol but cheers mate (Y)
You remove the bars, raise with the jack to the new heigh, then push bars back in, just keep spinning bars until they go in, they will go back in one position only....
The ride will be the same provided you dont go to low so that it bottoms out on the bumpstops (this will FAIL MOT) if you need to go really low, you need to run some uprated shocks, otherwise it will ruin the standard ones because ur running them out of there range. Uprated shocks will make the ride harder.
iv watched both of your videos ther good cheers its still puzzle my head!! im learnin to be a mechanic soo its helps im just wonderin when you higher it with the jack how do u get it to stay at that height is it when you put the torsion bar bk through it.. wat do u line it up with the splines? and when you lower your car that does it make the ride harder and not a springy cheers drew

Question:
how the fuck do you actually adjust the height?
weeg91 1 year ago
well, once you have the torsion bars out you put them back in selecting a spline position higher up closer to the car. that way it will sit closer to the ground.

kaihunt 2 years ago
My wheels dont rub no, and they are 17's....
And know they wont get any stiffer, only way to siffen up the ride is to upgrade to a gti'6 setup, which has firmer bars, and some uprated shocks!
