i don't know who really don't know how but i always mix this song i mean the original, with songs of garbage.

in some place of my heart i was feel this song was for them.

saw her at new year's eve in nyc. she blew me away with this song. brought me and her to tears. patti shows the incredible beauty of U2's lyrics (which normally i don't notice due to slick production).

This is amazing, I think the job of a cover version is to make you NOT think of the original, apart from a vague feeling of recognition of the words. And this so does that.

I love Patti Smith and U2, but I can't connect with this cover at all. Its stripped of emotion, at least moreso than Bono's, her high notes are weak. She did a great cover of Teen Spirit using a similar formula of stripped down accoustics and unusual singing quirks but it doesn't work here. Its depressing from the first minute and lacks the ambivalence of U2's version which was bitter sweat, this is just bitter.
