  • Haha, he's so cool. :) You're OK in my book, Gerry.

  • Ow wow, this old guy is great! :) Ur cool in my book, Tom.

  • respect is mostly a passive one - most people agree that the passive acceptance is the largest way of respecting - a bartender telling a guest its time for a taxi is active respect. We should appreaciate the active respect as much as we like the passive respect.

  • Lol, he looks so pissed off :D

  • This young man really enjoyed your company and listening to all your story Dad,I am sure he respected you deep inside him,Keep it up excellent work ,I love you Dad.

  • total respects sir

  • its not that surprising his dog collar was asked to be removed, i wear a belt i remove that, the difference my belt is a neccesaty and the gothic fashion is not.

its optional, it goes back to wearing a veil, that is less insulting to the eye than a gothic dog collar (though its not a dog collar, referring to a priest's collar).

its nothing to do with being callis, brutish, domaneering, or anything else like that wht was he thinking i, flying i'll wear a pointy necklace and a gothic tee shirt..

  • were you going on a flight?...this lad was just waiting to meet friends in the arrival hall.

  • Who's tom? Is he another youtuber?

  • He is the son of positivesue who's channel is now closed.

  • the kid almost fell asleep LOOL

  • Man if I'm on youtube when I'm this old I'll be a very happy person. I'm 15 and I think you have bideos worth listening to :)

  • It's been a while since I watched a Geriatric video and this as my first. I liked the subject that was brought up. I dress similar to the fella in the vid and get steriotyped a lot cos I have piercings, long-ish hair and the odd piece of jewellery. A good subject/debate(?)

  • hey i agree with tom alot and i think the way he dresses is really quite awesome to be honest and i was wondering whether he also has a youtube acount if he does would you be able to send me the link thanyou anyway. crystal

  • He used to have an account for his music videos, but not now:-)

  • excellent dialog... i found your conversation interesting, insightful and inspiring. i like the way you expressed yourself openly and non judgementally. and the comment about the how the media seems to expose the negative and not enough of the positive.... was an great thought and point to consider. this video brought to light a positive interaction and is a step in a better direction. as they say "one step at a time."

  • Wh..why is the teenager wearing a collar?

It would be quite a routine if he were needing to take it off once in school; or in public for that matter.

  • i had a similar incident in an airport, when me and my parents were talking about the artist Pablo Picasso and mentioned that in his canvas of war, that there is a knife in the painting and a officer with a gun pulled me over to frisk me and assumed as a young man of 18 i would carry a blade...

  • what a lovely thoughtful conversation. :)

  • What a great topic! Keep up the good work....

  • That was great. what a nice old guy!

    X

  • where did you get that easy button?

  • on the corner

  • I saw that easy button, I want one

  • Personally, I respect the views of the older generations because they have been there and done that. I resent young people that are disrespectful to their elders.

  • I agree. A lot of old people were even 'rebels' in there own time, and did things that their parents maybe didn't approve of, just like this generation. In their day, they were just like us.

  • EASY BUTTON !

  • Excellent Video, Peter. I wish there were more people willing to bridge that gap between old and young.

Andy, who sits about halfway between you and Tom. (I turned 50 five days after you turned 80)

  • people also steryotype emos. i hate that theres nothing wrong with it

  • Awesome

  • This is a very interesting video :)

  • Tom ,seem's like a decent kid and i can't understand why anyone would be afraid of him...

  • Good way to keep the mind active Tom!

Its time the young generation recognize the valuable information 'elders' can provide in terms of wisdom

Respect should be mutual as we are all God's childrens regardless of our chronological age

All the best to you! oh by the way check my guitar playing posted videos if you have some time I am sure you will find something of interest

    Peace!

  • so? emos are fne unlss they are bad people themselves dont judge a clique by a stereotype.

  • he might not be emo just has the emo hair looks more like a metal head to me.

  • YOU HAVE AN EASY BUTTON!!!

  • Flatwoods Monster.

  • i love this video.

  • haha yay the easy button.

  • these guys are great! the "old" person is cool because he is so nice to youths and the "young" one is cool cos hes a goth but not a bad person (like me :D)

  • A great idea to produce this very interesting video dealing with different generations and their understanding between each other.

Cool title, by the way, great sense of humour! :-)

Tom seems to be a sympathetic and bright person, too. Me, I fully except his dark, black outfit. It's good that all people are different. Would be boring if we all would wear identical clothes! :-)

  • whats with the satan shirt? seriously, is that necessary? no.

  • For him, it IS necessary. Seriously!

    Enough said...

  • (= in reply to funkymonk09's posting - don't know why my reply does not appear directly under his posting)

  • well, u see, im a christian. i know its his choice but i dont know. i guess i just feel sorry 4 him cuz.............well, i cant really explain it. im in no place to preach 2 people but jesus loves us all and did so much 4 us. we could be a LITTLE thankful. *sigh* this is just gonna turn into a big arguement isnt it?

  • @ funkymonk09:

    > well, u see, im a christian.

This is your right. As well as it is others' right NOT to be a christian and to NOT believe in what you believe.

    > this is just gonna turn into a big arguement

    > isnt it?

Not necessarily: As long as everybody involved tolerates that other people are allowed to believe in other things (or even in nothing).

  • i know.....................

  • You are so cool!

  • Exelent peter, i love my grandpa very much

  • well said on lots of comments you made about the younger generation i just wish you were all like you :D

  • Priceless... Amazing what an open mind and heart can do..

  • Loved this video. What a great combination and thought. Novmoon

  • Congratuations on getting Tom to chuckle and smile! I hope that as he matures and grows he will find many more opportunities to reveal that charming side of him.

  • hey i respect old folks... they aren't old farts like everyone says they are... but seriously i respect my elders and their thoughts especially... and i especially respect people that are well over there 50s and still have a youtube... i'm 16 right now and i love older people... there stories and look on life is more meaningful than a younger cat, like myself... i wonder if you have a myspace... and if not you should get one... i would add you! ^^

  • I love your videos and what you do.

To be fair, I think a lot of young people look at older people and stereotype them. I think we do feel like the differences are too many for us, that it's going to be difficult to connect and therefore we should just avoid each other altogether.

That's why I feel your videos are important: because I truly do see an older person (I'm 19) that I can relate to, and that I feel like I could have a normal conversation with.

    Thank you

  • "Hello Youtubers" GOTH- HELLO.......MADE a mistake there

  • This guy is really great. What a wonderfull idea.

  • that young guy is hot!!

  • Wise.

  • creepy...

  • that kids weird

  • i remember when you talked with thehill88...

wasnt that also a chat with a young friend?

  • I love this video Tom looks a nice fella too. Shame people get judged by their looks. As a blue fairy I get that all the time hee hee! Good to see the generation gap become smaller.

  • Love this video completly, well done

  • This video is on the spot, old people do judge by looks. Old people think just bc you wear baggy pants or hoods, that your a evil thug or something. But to be fair, alot of young people's mentality and personality changes when they're with friends. I generally respect old people bc i was brought up to respect old people.

  • I'm sure if the young and old could find a mutual interest they would be able to better communicate with each other.

  • The old stick together and so do the young. In the news it's mostly about young people being disrespectful towards older people. And also there are many prejudices out there. Most young people think old people are boring and just sit around watching Tv all day, when in fact I know many old people (i'm 22) who are highly active and actually try to get to grips with i.e. computers and stuff (not my father though..).

  • About old people giving the respect to young: I think most old people do give young people the respect they want; it's just, as you yourself mentioned, there is'nt much contact between the generations except i.e. between grandparents and their grandchildren.

  • Yeah, your right Geriatric but there has always been a gap between the generations; not just today or in the 60's but always. It's only in our fast paced society the tendency has become more pronounced due to the fact that things are changing more quickly and young people are growing up faster. The world in 1900 was still recognisably the same as the one of 1800 but not so of 2000 for example.

  • very endearing

  • Interesting point of view.

  • Original

  • your such a legend Geriatric!!

  • people are so unplesant

  • Your Unpleasant

  • you're not your.

  • very well said

  • i love this video

  • you are one of the older people who actually understand whats really going on with both generations you are one of the smartest people on youtube keep making videos your a complete natural

  • I am also of the older generation and I welcome your series and have subscribed to it. I am also impressed with the young and their technical knowledge and compassion. I will be getting a webcam soon and hope to be able to use it correctly. I was an accountant before computers and learning from my younger colleagues has been a pleasure, though I admit rather intimidating. Thank you for your series.

  • love it... this vid shows exactly wat is wrong with stereotypization!

  • hahahhah lol funny

  • Stfu

  • oooorrrrrhhhhh Caitlin

  • good video peter

  • You speak in such an eloquent manner that it is as if you are an actor who has memorized a script. I Could just listen to you all day. Thanks for your wit and wisdom.

  • Unfortunately, stereotypization and discrimination happens - based on the way you look - regardless of age; they look at you and see you are old, or young, or goth, or asian faced, or fat, or whatever, and immediately you are in a box of that other person that was assembled out of sheer prejudice, societal ignorance, the need to avoid having to actually think and rather just "react", the lack of information - thus the fear of the unknown - and the lack of desire to gather that information.

  • I have to agree with you, cprs9. It's been going on forever, hasn't it? Great interview, Peter.

  • Keep up the good work Pete - u r the best!

  • Great video Peter, thank you for sharing!

  • Oh come on, folks. Stop the arguing, will you? This video's great and I can't see what gives any of you the right to turn the comments thread in your own personal battle ground. You want to argue? Do it somewhere else and don't be so selfish and ruin the experience for others who enjoy reading other peoples' comments on a wonderful video.

Well done, Peter. Lovely as always.

  • Peter

Great to see you having/encouraging conversations between generations- Good show.

  • very nice Peter!!

  • that looked like a nightmare Tom lol

  • look theres a lot of abuse been towards and in support of this old guys vids. he's having some fun just leave him be if you wanna be a tool do it some where else. i think his vids are good for him it give him and outlet and he's learing so much and so is every one else that isnt narrow mineded. keep up the vids mate!!

  • i have alot of time for older people. We have lots to learn from them

  • woops, yes i guess it is...didnt watch all the way through before posting :P

  • is that an "easy button" on the desk behind you??

  • Now I wish I was there! I live in Canada, and actually am a grandmother myself (shhhh) but we have adopted you - and now your family expands, and we will make room at the table for them too. You are a wonderful giving, loving spirit Grandad. Enjoy your visit Tom, and don't forget to buy him some ice cream for me.

  • That is so sweet XD

  • tom is a little shy hermit

  • I think you need to look up the meaning of the word hermit....it doesn't apply to him at all....you don't know anything about him

  • Hm...Interesting video.

  • ooo toms really cute ><

  • I Loves Him x

  • ur an imbisible replying to this u nub

  • Listen here, 'jasa00'. I just looked at your profile because I like to know whos attempting to attack or offend me. Youre like 14, you post clips from fucking video games - YOU are the fucking imbilsile and don't you dare reply because I always have the last fucking word. I can even imagine what you look like - ginger, fat, smelly. I could go on. and what the fuck is a 'nub'?

  • u must be a "nuB" to not know what it fuking is. You should listen to yourself you Fuking RETARD your the one posting shitty replies to videos that some of us acctually want to watch.

ANd BTW looks whos talking about shitty videos.

PoppyKorny wtf is that shite? get a fuking life

and yeh i am fuking 14 so fuking what i would still woop your head in a fight u fuking n00b

i would even want to go NEAR u in real life

  • yo're a twat.

  • Yer MAWS a twat

  • Ok, no need to get personal Jasa, I just think that goth fellow is slightly ridiculous with all his gubbins round his neck and what have you. I still respect the old man, he totally floats my boat.

  • Fuking??????

  • hahahaha get the word right i think your looking for 'imbecile'. and you certainly are one.

  • you are a role model for old people and young. keep on, this world needs warmth.

And to you who writes such disgraceful things about the kid, grow up, comb yourself and do something good in this world.

  • Great questions Petey!

  • Kill The Emo !

  • I think the problem there is that Tom couldn't communicate the issues the way I think he wanted to. The problem is not when young people do bad things they tarnish the others so much, its more a when someone does something good and gets no respect from an elder that discourages doing said good thing.

  • Tom takes after his mum....not very good with words!

I wouldn't say the problem is MORE the other way...I think it's 50/50.

  • the screen cap to this vid looks like you're about to kill/eat that kad.

  • kid* geez

  • lol....you're right it does...I hadn't noticed before:-)

  • I like the comment you made about older people needing younger people to help with modern technology. You seem to be doing fine on your own Peter.

  • easy botton!

  • tom wasnt being clear so peter was clarifing it. and tom wasnt saying much so peter was trying to encourage him. peter was not taking over

  • Well done Peter and Tom. I really enjoyed watching!

  • i like this video :)) good questions!

  • My advice dont dress like a turd lose the dog collar and were normal clothes

  • I'd rather him dress like this and be able to SPELL correctly

  • Wordblind perhaps, Sue?

  • People are going to judge u if u smoke cannabis and were a dog collar and a fukin hoodie with a devil on it u idoit! go smoke some cannabis dirty goth!

  • and who says he smokes cannabis??....he doesn't smoke ANYTHING

  • Eh? No multi accounts here, I say what I say from this account only.

  • The so-called "f****** emo" is reluctantly going to do an interview with me...hopefully today:-)

  • His comment doesn't bother me....like you I reply to who I want! :-)

  • No...Goth actually....so people deserve to die just because YOU don't like their fashion??

  • Hi Paul...fancy meeting YOU here. I actually don't agree with you on this... there is nothing that makes it obvious they are the same person:-)

  • good video

  • Agreed.

  • Tho I say this as nicely as possible, it seemed mostly Peter made a speech, with Tom there to nod in agreement, while Peter occasionally had Tom utter a few words and then Peter told us what he thought those words meant. Seemed a bit contrived. Still, nothing awful, & I still like Peter! Tom seems nice enough, too.

  • You're right about Peter doing most of the talking of course....most probably because When he told us what he wanted to do I did say he would find it hard getting Tom to say much and I was surprised that Tom went along with it at all!! I am trying to get round him to doing an interview with ME now...about the visit to Peters.

  • This is what I see often in 'communication' between young and old, unfortunately. The young come across as having little to say, for bashfulness or fear or lack of interest or who knows what. And so then, if the old do speak to them, it's more like a speech than a conversation. And then, if the young person does speak, the old person soon interrupts and tells the young person what the young person meant. Made me feel like 'So much for young & old meeting and communicating.'

  • Usually quite like Peter's videos, but this one bothered me a little. (Am unfamiliar with Tom.) Although this was about young & old coming together, it seemed to be very little two-way communication. (continued in next comment)

  • Yeah, because the video bored me shitless (not to mention cringeworthy) too, but I had to watch it to be able to draw that conclusion. I guess Kestrel was in the same position.

  • You're neighbour is a cutie

  • We should stop seeing "young and old" just like we should stop seeing "black and white".

  • Hello Peter - that was a neat interview I wish everyone could just be themselves without being judged.. Life would be so much easier.

  • Y is he wearing a dog collar

  • So I can attach his lead to something when I take him walkies:-)

  • Lol

  • That was easy.

  • Because it's hard to come to the conclusion that something is a bore without actually watching it first. Movie reviewers and journalists make a living from that sort of thing don't forget.

  • Good point!

  • LOL!

  • lol wow :O
