Pipe Major Farquhar Beaton's masterpiece Glencoe; a standard 48th Highlanders of Canada Slow March. A standard Slow March to the Graveside in both WWs 1 & 2 and for the Regiment's Fallen since. In Quick Time, it is Colonel Robertson, the 48th Highlanders Commanding Officer’s March and a standard Quick March to Rest Billets after Battle.
Scots Pipers and British bands picked up the tune in WW1, particularly the 48 HIGHRS Imperial Allied Regiment, the Gordons. Dileas Gu Brath.
Greetings from Toronto, Canada my Scottish friend:) very beautiful and greatly put together your video with music and pictures ...My heart forever belongs to Scotland and the Highlands..I love and appreciate your country very much and hope to plan a trip back soon with my fiance :). Take care and wishing you all the best always peace and hugs Claire :)
@celticlass32 this is a beautiful tune In its fasater pace it is the col robertson's march which if you are from toronto it shoiuld mean a lot it is the regimental march of the 48th highlanders of Canada based in Toronto
Just back from Scotland and this has me planning to go straight back. Congratulations on yet another great contribution and we look forward to the next one, keep up the good work.
From childhood this was my favourite song..sung by the Corries. A piper played it at my wedding reception in 1977. The saddest and most beautiful song in the world!! Pipe music is the most descriptive of emotions. Hoping to go to Scotland for the first time this fall..check out all the family history. Thankx for the music.
Man! As a piper, band member, and often traveler to the highlands, the videos you post accompanied with the excellent piping sure make for a good postcard for Scotland. Looking forward to your next posting...Thanks again!
Yet again you've surpassed yourself. A beautiful video which tugs at the heart strings. A truly shameful and treacherous act. 13 February 1692 must never be forgotten. I was attached to 1 RHF in Fallingbostel during the late '90's and the RSDG where stationed just across the road from us. A fantastic posting and the best three years of my twelve year military career.
The grisly deed at Glencoe... soothin to hear dat it eventually resulted in a sweet piece of music . Fantastic ! / Hälsningar till Skottland från grannen Sverige .
Another wonderful posting thanks so much!!. I particularly like the arrangement of the tune (less busy). Its simplicity lends itself to the instrumental accompaniment. Another example of how sometimes.... simple is good.
