robbaz, i think you should really lower your voltage, it is way too high for only 4.2mhz. your pc will perform better at 4ghz with higher memory speeds.
I have liquid cooling system and someone told me below 1.5 is safe. But what do you recommend for liquid cooled i7 920? (Cooled by Zalman reserator and swiftech apogee gtz block. (Allways in prime 95 temperature below 80 somewhere near 75) Thanks in advance.
personally i would not put that much voltage through my chip as it has a high chance of being damaged, 75c isnt very cool but it is acceptable with lower volts than that. I would be careful putting that much through your chip if i were you...
Ok I will drop my voltage, but do you have any advice to me because my cpu will boot at 4.4 1.36v but it is not stable and it need over 1.42v to be stable. Is there some other voltage to adjust because it is d0 and it should not need that much voltage?
have you played around with the cpu pll voltage? try putting it to 1.98v and see if you can get the cpu stable at under 1.4v, worth a try. What board are you using?
Yep thats true. I raised northridge voltage little bit and it worked like a dream. I have also watercooled my northbridge so it wont hurt it. Thanks for your advice.
Robbaz, i got 3gigs of Kingston DDR3 2000mHz CL-9-9-9-27. Can i use the same settings with that ram? Or maybe run it at 1600mHz and lower the latency to 8-8-8-24?
Now excuse me for being blunt but I thought this video was supposed to show us how to o/clock our i7 not how fast you can press buttons, so why don't you do it at a speed which we can actually see WTF settings you are using? we are not all on Epinephrine as you or Chev Chelios (aka crank) are, Just hold the cam on your screen with the settings longer and explain how some settings effect the resulting cpu speed or memory speed, otherwise there is no point in yr vid.
gday mate, I remember you once telling me that since I have only 1333Mhz DDR3 ram my max OC on a core i7920 will be 3.5ghz.
I see that your ram there is running at 1200 Mhz but you are getting an OC of 4+Ghz. Could you please explain again why i can't do that and what knowledge I am missing :S ... a big ask I know
Is this 24/7 overclocks? Im buying i7 920, 6gigs of corsair dominator and asus p6t mobo (not sure which one of them). I have zalman reserator xt watercooling and if i buy that stuff i would like it to go over 4ghz, so can i use i7 920 over 4ghz with good cooling 24/7 ?
i've got a similar system (i7 920, 3x2gig Corsair Dominator 1600 8-8-8-24, Asus Striker Rampage II) i'm using a cheap Siberian Tiger II CPU cooler, i'm gaming for hours at 4GHz no problems (in fact it seems MORE stable than stock clock!?) Crysis at v.high 1920x1200 4xAA no problems (max CPU 50'c, SB 60'c,NB 60'c & Mobo 40'c). i've got the cpu voltage at 1.45, if you're going to buy a new 920, then even better (i've got the original 'hotter' version) you can take it further still.
guys please i need help i'll buy core i7 920 3gb ram GTX260 p6t - X58 ( and ill keep my 580 watt from old pc , so pelae help me! from 2.66ghz can i do 2.8 ghz with 580watt ??????)
I'm using coretemp to check tempature, what frequency do your ram have? 1333mhz is limited to 3,5ghz overclock with speedstep/turbo. 1333 / 8x mem multi = 166.5 x 21 = 3,5ghz.
While 1600mhz / 8x mem multi = 200 x 21 = 4,2Ghz.
I'm not saying that 3,5ghz is a bad overclock it's really good.
Yeah i run my computer constantly at 4,2ghz with a infinity/mugen now with two 120mm fans. It keeps it under 80c but alot of people find that to high, never got any issues this far.
so far lol, if stuff starts melting inside you won't notice anything in first instance untill your cpu speed starts dropping. my bro had this, he had an oc cpu wich ran to hot but gave no trouble. only after a month or 2 he started noticing that his pc was slowing down and dxdiag was indeed showing lower speed while he did not change anything.
Be careful its like a box of razor blades! One had to get stitches on three fingers due to that thing but its a beast of a heatsink wish it was all copper though.
Would,t mined getting one but I have three zalman cnps7000b-cu heatsinks that I bought for less than $15 a peace. good deal when on newegg there $33 new.
Whats the default voltage of a I7 920?

drop your voltages! your gonig to kill ur cpu! i can get 4.2 with only 1.3 v core.

dont worry they are 1,38v now.

drop it down to 1.3.

Where is the right place to look at i7 920 voltages? My bios shows me 1.475 but in cpu-z it is only 1.392. Which is the real cpu voltage?
--yytinen
Yytinen 2 years ago
put your pc on prime and look at cpu-z, that will be your true voltage. btw if you are using a 920 d0, dont put the voltage above 1.35...
NAMkiller 2 years ago
I have d0 but why not above 1.35?
Yytinen 2 years ago
1.35v is high enough, any higher is putting too much voltage through, especially on air.

And those are for overclocked at 4.4ghz.
Yytinen 2 years ago
when you run prime95, what does the voltage say in cpu-z? if that is around 1.37 or below then thats good for 4.4ghz at those temps :)
NAMkiller 2 years ago
Well those temps are with 1.42v from cpu-z. But is it so if cpu is cool enough little overvoltage wont hurt it ?
Yytinen 2 years ago
