As for the lights, are these 'virtual' lights onscreen or are these physical lights—i.e. are you communicating with DMX, for example?
Regarding the possibility of completing this in a week, yes this is possible, albeit challenging if you haven't worked with Max before. Ultimately, though, you will learn an awful lot from attempting to do so which is surely the point of the exercise. Good luck with this, anyway.
Cheers for your extensive response . . . These will be virtual lights, 36 would be nice but for now just doing two would give me hope. Don't know what DMX is . . . I would look to record the sounds into max msp or import wav files of individual notes, although I've attempted to import wav files in the past, after converting m4a files into wav, again had no luck. Again don't know what fiddle is either. Thus need to more tutorials so I can actually have a more in depth conversation with you . .
Essentially I need 36 lights all with individual colours that will individually light up in response to 36 notes (3 octaves) that my tenor saxophone will play. So when I play an Ab, the light that's programmed to respond to that note/frequency will light up a specific colour and so on . . . Not sure if max msp can handle more than 4 sounds according to some videos that I have been watching. But I suppose there is only one way to find out . . .
How you are doing the pitch identification. Are you using [fiddle~]?
When you ask about how many sounds Max can handle, are you referring to samples (I presume not) or how many pitches it can identify simultaneously? I confess I haven't worked extensively with pitch tracking so I'm not sure about the latter. But in general max's handling of audio comes down largely to CPU
I do apologize for being snappy as I had a presentation today regarding an max msp project. And after speaking to my tutor I know realize that you can't take short cuts to the stuff one wants to learn first without knowing the basics. So know I am going to go through all the tutorials that come with the software and if I still can't figure how to do the simplest thing then I will send you my patch. Cheers
@02910748 No, there are no shortcuts in learning Max/MSP I'm afraid. But the effort of getting to grips with it is very much worth it in the long run.
I'm afraid it's difficult for me to propose a solution without seeing your patch. Is there a [buffer~] with the same name as the name you've included for the [record~] object? If you want to send me an email with an image of your patch my address is available on my website. I should be able to help from that.
Hi, when I put my meter on I can see the bars shifting as I speak. But when I attempt record by locking then pressing the toggle then pressing 1 then saying something then pressing 0 and then switching toggle off. I double click or click on my 'record my sound 1 2' and no wave appears like in your video. Do you have any idea why?
got one week to do this, is that realistic?

@02910748 so would some courtesy and a bit of patience. Exactly how quickly were you expecting a response?

does the fact I downloaded a demo affect recording sound?
02910748 2 months ago
@02910748 The demo is fully functional so it shouldn't make any difference.
