400M's are a pain in the ass to build you have to have alot of parts custom made. but atleast you can buy aluminum heads for it now, and not very many people have built up 400m engines accept 4x4 guy's, pretty cool .
Anything you can do to a 351 Cleveland you can do to a 400, you just need to bush the small end of the con rods so you can use the good 351 Cleveland pistons and then get intake spacer plates so you can use the good 351 Cleveland intakes, just that simple!
@torkair72torino you got that right ...i built a killer 408 i used 351 trw dome pistons reworked 400 rods 4v closed chamber heads roller cam holley strip domanator intake spacers from pme 950 holley hp carb msd dist i had this motor in my sand drag ford ranger c-4 trans 5000 stall trans brake this motor made 598 hp i'm sold on the 400m..cheap to built ..i was a little worryed using stock rods though it ran for 2 years than the rod came apart now i had some custom rods made cost $1000
