Guys, just shut the fuck up about whether or not Evanescence is gothic metal. It doesn't make them any better or worse for being called gothic. Amy has been referred to as "The Queen of Gothic Rock" on several occasions. It's not a BAD thing to be called 'gothic' or 'metal'. They'll be remembered for their music, not their genre.

Evanescence actually started out a goth rock/metal project hence the name of their first album "fallen" but now the band has mutated between goth and alternative influences.

Another fun fact is that Goth Metal is known to take from various styles of metal. It's 2011. What Goth music has indeed evolved over the years. This song definitely is Goth influenced, and I'm sure they met for it to be such. Make sure you read about the definition before you assume.

why is not Gothic Metal? just because isn't European?? many of their songs have quite decent riffs and strong bass. Some songs are even heavier than gothic metal bands like Xandria, or Tristania, just to mention. Their sound is not maybe rooted on doom metal, but Gothic nowadays is far from there. Alternative rock is not right either, maybe the best definition that upsets the less people could be "Gothic Hard Rock" or "Gothic rock with metal influences"

Tienes razon sobre Fallen. Entre el contrato con Wind-Up y la publicacion de Fallen pasaron dos anhos en los que tuvieron que escribir nueva musica y adaptar la precedente. Pero The Open Door (la Ev sin Ben) me parece todo el contrario de comercial.

aver primero que nada...para mi punto de vista hay dos evanescence....con ben y sin ben...ahora evanescence con ben a mi gusto es rock gothico...pegandole dos dos al metal pero le falta fuerza incluir doble bombo o algunos blast en la bateria...bueno sin ben...para mi tienen mas toque de rock progresivo por que la nostalgia se vio disminuida...aunque para mi your star pega en el symphonico por que los arreglos de strings son exelentes...en fin...queda en rock...le falta potencia para ser metal
