yea this is the best fix for E74 and its not an overheating problem its the scaler chip. overheating is the 2 red lights. i had this and i did the xclamp fix ( worked for a day) i did the penny fix (didnt work) the towel trick (worked for a few hours) so yea what you did is the best fix

I sent it to them this past Tuesday (8/4/09) and I just recieved two emails one confirming they've finished repairing it and another with the UPS tracking information. It's barely Thursday! They even paid for all of the shipping. I am VERY satisfied with Microsoft w/ regards to this.
The E74 is just like the 3 red rings of death. All it is, is the x-clamps don't hold the heat sinks tight. The sodder heats up and the chips shift. If you get the E74, treat it as the 3 Red Rings repair. There are a bunch of vids that show you how. The MAIN issue to focus on is replacing the x-clamps. You can buy the kits on ebay very cheap. Or you can go to ebay, find someone that sells the kits and was stupid enough to list exactly what comes with it, and go to your local hardware store.

GOODLUCK!
The funniest thing about this is Big Reuben saying how he is really enjoying blowing the hell out of his son's XBox 360. You have to listen for it, but it's there.
