Actually, they did bathe in the rivers and with their fellow friends. Saying they wore stupid clothes is a matter of an opinion, mine is that psychedelic clothes are wonderful. Filled their bodies with poison? Most hippies didn't use any hard drugs, only a few did things like heroin and coke. If you call Cannabis or LSD or natural mushrooms poison, you're an idiot. You can't overdose on either of those and they did it for mind expansion. Don't criticize what you don't know.

Had several bad trips in the 80s and believe my short term memory loss and pains I still get in my head 25 years later is a result of bad lsd.
