All citizens are required to have a PAL (Possession and Acquisition License) with restricted status in order to purchase or own a handgun. Very strict back checks are involved in both the license application and each transfer of a restricted firearm. Criminals, do not care of they have a PAL, or a ATT (Authorization To Transport). They will acquire any gun they can get their dirty little hands on. Which are mostly smuggled into the country illegally. A ban does not effect these illegal firearms.

All citizens are required to have a PAL (Possession and Acquisition License) with restricted status in order to purchase or own a handgun. Very strict back checks are involved in both the license application and each transfer of a restricted firearm. Criminals, do not care of they have a PAL, or a ATT (Authorization To Transport). They will acquire any gun they can get their dirty little hands on. Which are mostly smuggled into the country illegally. A ban does not effect these illegal firearms.

This morning CFRB's Stephen LeDrew commented that at least if handguns were banned & if one smuggled from the U.S. was sold & the police stopped this person with the gun they'd be able to arrest him. This is the type of dumb comment that people hear and then think a "handgun ban" would be desirable. In the first place a handgun ban would not prevent this hypothetical scenario from occurring and moreover the scenario describes several existing serious criminal offences. Duh! duh! & duh! again.

Mayor Miller is the man. Toronto is a great city and he is making it better. Residents don't need handguns for private use. I've lived in this country my whole life and never once have I needed a handgun. If only the states would grow up and get rid of that second ammendment that they hide behind.

As a citizen of Toronto I'm emarresed to say David Miller is my mayor. Instead of getting tough on people who use a handgun in a crime Miller calls for a ban on all handguns including those owned by law abiding citizens who use the guns for target practice or to protect their family. The only thing Miller is doing for this call on banning handguns is taking advantage of people who have been affected by this sort of crime and that's sick.
