so basically he's sayin if u dont rap like the wu tang clan ur not hip hop..if that wuz the case hip hop would be wack as hell to listen to cause everyone would sound the same...oh by the way, didnt ODB (r.i.p.) use to sing all the time...so why wuz it alrite when he did it rza? oooooooh i forgot he wuz a part of the wu, so thats an exception to the rule huh?
wow bone was never lil wayne bone had they on style bone is midwest wat the hell you have to say twista do or die and everybody that came out the midwest
Bone fan and Wu fan here, He is 100% correct, Bone was commercial rap back in 94-97 that's no lie, Wu Tang was Hip Hop it's 2 different styles, He's just mad cause they combine the 2 styles into 1 and call it Hip Hop.
RZA is speaking the truth. And it also pisses me off that so many so called hip hop fans like to abandon a great rapper or hip hop group just because they aren't in their 20s anymore. People always want a fresh face and are quick to brush aside real talent. "Wu Tang Clan. That's old stuff. That's died out." Okay, stick with your lame pop rappers then and miss out on real hip hop. Wu Tang is forever.
This is fucking retarded. Bone Thugs did not have commercial shit out in the mid 90s. Mo murda? Die die die? Shots to tha double glock? Thug luv....lol ya that's commercial. NYC dudes are always egocentric and don't respect anyone else
Wu aint got shit on Bone!!! Bone murder anyone any day... they still sell out concerts today.... Bone is too good... so many styles, melodies, and complex rhyme schemes.... BONE ALL DAY!!!!
wtf, bone is my niggas and this nigga acting like bone and wu tang got tha same style, they dnt..they got totally diff styles.everbody loves hip hop cuz that was the new thing bak in the day,and wen someone comes around wit a new style, its catchy to the ear,AND BONE WAS JUST TO CATCHY FOR YALL WU TANG FANS,THATS WHY BONE WON,THATS Y BONE SOLD MORE THEN 30 MILLION RECORDS....BONE IS IN ITS OWN DIFF CATEGORY OF MUSIC, AND WU TANG FALL IN WIT THE OTHERS
@humanchillz Bone aint original coming out with that style...Freestyle Fellowship started that. Travel back in times and dig my ninjas. Wu-Tang forever and a day!
@71Raw i got love for dem,all the way from dallas texas...u tryna tell me bone sounds the same like them other lame ass artist, then u dntkno music mane............bone for life foo rip eazy and my nigga odb
@71Raw I think you're a little uninformed, dude. Comparing Bone's style to that of FF is like saying Canada and England are the exact same thing because they both have the same queen. The layered vocals, the ever-changing tempo/pacing, the production, the speed, the singing, the delivery, etc... BTNH was unequivocally unique. E99 Eternal and The Art Of War are all original, especially the latter.

Shame we never got a 90's Bone/Wu cut, I always wanted them to collab.
whats his views on outkast? dont be droppin angrey dick ridin comments for arguments, but it sounds alot like his sayin hip hop cant be happy, i understand what he sayin about all lil wayne bullshit and tha gettin pushed thru radio but andre 3000 is lyrical genious and hes very excentric and laughs off people who constantley rap negativley
I'm a fan of both Wu and Bone. I remember GZA saying on Reunited
"Scatting on soft-ass beats, them niggaz rap happily
Tragically, that style deteriorate rapidly"
He has to be talking about Bone or any Fast Rapper at the time in 1997 you had Twista too. But Bone mixed harmonies with raps. Just like ODB. He just had the drunken singing flow but he was singing. At the end of the day ODB and Bone collaborated with the one of the biggest pop singers of the 90s Mariah Carey so was that Hip Hop?

Plus, the first album was meant to be almost like a story of their hometown, they were at the heart of gangsta rap, and they were practically kids when they recorded it so it makes sense that it focused on X rather than Y. They started branching out after that and released some really meaningful, socially conscious tracks after that.
Although I agree with RZA for the most part, to call out Bone Thugs like that wasn't exactly fair. Sure, they were doing gangsta rap rather than conscious stuff like Wu Tang but they really expanded the borders of hiphop and showed just how diverse it is. When everyone thought of rap as forceful delivery like NWA, they came in singing and melodically speed rapping and showed how multi-faceted rap can be.
I don't think that RZA was refering to the whole "gangsta rap" thing as you said, i think he meant that they basically sing on their records, even though i disagree with his views.
You gotta remember this interview was probably done in like 1998 i'd say. Me my self i just appreciate all hip-hop as long as i think it's dope so i love Wu and Bone and many many more.
hees right on point when he talks about how most of these new groups masquerade behind R & B, using their marketing skills more than their ability on the mic 2 sell records. That's y wu tang is 4 the babys!
