Huh? Yeah, it's a play on words but I think you're reading far too much into it. "Butterflies" are a nervous and excited feeling that happens in the stomachs of people who are in a new relationship and infatuated with each other. Those feeling can dim or dissipate in long term relationships.The song's about long term partners who still feel butterflies/excitement for each other , i.e: "we've been to the top, we've been to the bottom...but the butterflies are still there", etc..
