Well, it is far from a simple solution, treating patients with functional medicine is time consuming and requires specialized training. Yes, it can and does frequently cause thyroid dysfunction. Rich Van Konynenburg PhD has a wonderful presentation that lays all of this out in detail. It is a very technical presentation intended for physicians. I am unable to put the link in the comment., but search on his name plus Sweden and you will find the link

I feel I have been mislead. Seems like a simple solution yet no one has addressed the issues even though my children and I have seen hundreds of doctors.
Depends on toxicity. Starting high dose can cause rapid detoxification and subsequent partial re absorption of toxins - feels like hangover from Hell.
So usually start low with either Deplin or Metanx and work up. Good starting dose is around 3 to 4 mg of L-methyl folate (the active ingredient in both Deplin and Metanx. L methyl folate works best in MTHFR 677 and Methyl B12 shots or SL in the 1298.
I'm curious if you started with low doses of methylfolate, or did you just start with the high-dose Deplin? Also, have you had patients who had to start with tiny doses and then slowly increase the methylfolate? Thanks.
Wow, I am sorry to hear that. Well, if she treated properly, she may have no problems, but without proper treatment, I suspect she will have a lot of problems.
This is a condition that responds fairly well to treatment, basically it can be summed up by saying you need to provide the missing nutrients and remove the toxins already accumulated.
