Very nice video. Can you tell us about precautions for dust etc ? Would it be ok to do this in a regular environment if the drive were to be immediatley imaged/backed up to another brand-new HDD after ?
I have , clicking ,read write noise after my little brother , picked up the External IOMEGA Casing , with this Seagate Hdrive inside it , and tilted it sideways ,while it was running , it made this noise then get stuck , making buzzing sound. Now it is stuck.
What went on there? And how to repair it?
my Drive is :Seagate barracuda 320 Gb IDE ST3320820A 9BJ03G-505
in case if you didn't know, as soon as you open up a hard drive, its destroyed, as soon as you take the cover off, dust, allergies, etc. are able to go on the platter, unless you have you open it in a class 5 room(100% clean)
@hootergirlsrhot Then why is it that i have taken hard drives apart, reparked heads, freed stuck heads, etc in a regular room, still work, and still in service today?
The statement is valid ONLY if you dont know what your doing.
@hootergirlsrhot This is not true at all. I have repaired several drives at my workbench. Obviously you want as clean an area as possible, but dust and pollen particles will not stick to the platters and are thrown off when it starts up. Skin cells, fingerprints, oil and scratches can destroy a drive when servicing.
@divelectservices ok then by the story that your telling me, i can open up a HDD, while fixing a stuck head, then decide to go to burger king for lunch, while the cover is off, half hour later, i come back and there is dust throughout the disk of the HD, i freed the head and put the cover on, by the story your sayin, it will work like new.
ah ok I found the base screw. a small screw hidden. but it actually just turns around and around and doesn't come out. i will smash seagate in the face
my operation fail. because you don't explain how to remove head from hard drive. i thought it was base screws keeping it. my head separators slide out and trashed. fuck.
there is no screw holding the head assembly to the box. make no sense.
this kind of work has to be done in a dust and moisture proof room or working box

My disc is frozen. Heads seem to be free though. It was dropped about 2 feet.
