If he had played 4 new jersey or teamed up wit vince he wouldve won another championship but if he did go to jersey he would hav to go bak to bein 45 caz 23 is retired there
Jordan is a complete player. Kobe may be great in the offensive end, but here we are talking about the greatest ever offensive player and one of the greatest ever defensive player in MJ. It's MJ's equally greatness at the defensive end that made him the greatest basketball player who ever lived IMO.
the moment when MJ holds the ball tight..he knew the ball will find its jumper. MJ played with ease not with fear. If there's michael jordan there's basketball.
jordan could have won 9 rings in a row. the 2 against the rockets i think were more than possible and the lockout year could easily have been the bulls if not for kruase and his bullshit. and if he had a decent team that could have won at least 1 more. jordan has had one of the greatest careers of all-time but yet there are so many "what if's". ....
But its unheard of to hear about 40 year old PGs and SGs that put up these types of performances. In order for Lebron to keep his athleticsm hes going to have to learn how to play the PF position in 6-7 years otherwise hes in trouble.
Lol, Lebron will be just like kobe. They will age horribly. Its already happening to kobe. Those are two players who's athleticism will die with age. MJ's body was just evolution wise.. years ahead of everyone else. Only centers are playing at 40 years old because of the lack of movement they can still use their size
@loki1830 i think he just came back to see if he could compete with the young stars as of like king james and and kobe and d wade maybe..cause if he wanted to come back to win a championship he would chose a better team and no team would say no to mj.
@loki1830 It's a few years back now...but didn't he own part of the Wizards? I'm thinking that's why he played for them. But yes, put him a contender in these couple seasons, would have been more fun to watch, and likely another ring.
I'm a Lakers fan and I adore Kobe but he ain't got nothin on MJ. Jordan is unequivocally the greatest EVER. That isn't my opinion, it's fact. Anyone who thinks differently has rocks in their head
Man even at the age of 40 Jordan proved that he was the best of all-time. 20 ppg at the age of 40 is hard to do not even Kareem Abdul-Jabbar posted those type of numbers. I think he set the record for most points scored by a 40 year old in a game. he also hold the record for being the oldest player to score 50 points in a game against charlotte.
Regardless of what will be said of him, there is no doubt that Dirk has place among the NBA's All-Time Greats. His number 41 will be proudly retired, he will be proudly enshrined in the Hall of Fame, and his name alone will forever attain iconic status in the sport. Dirk Nowitzki is the name.
The man at age 40 averegeged 20+ppg..he was a monster and he had 2 50 point performances on the wizards lol..he is the greatest of all time hands down
They should have been. Jordan was scoring between 32 to 37 a game when he was at a similar point in his career. And in this vid they are a lot closer to their prime than Mike, or should have been anyways. Nash deserved only one of his MVPs in my opinion, if that cause they've never made the finals. Dirk deserved his though I think, although he choked in the finals.
and as far as ur statement with nash and dirk not being in thier prime holds no weight..cause compare jordan in his prime to nash and nowitski in theres..they arent even in the same sentence..this is a watered down jordan and look what hes doing..throw 7 years back in his legs and see what he'll do to this so called dallas team that baron davis tore apart in the playoffs..lol i cant believe u would even make that comment
true wat ur saying both in thier primes are no match 4 MJ but come on who is? nobody i just think both guys not being in thier peak against a MJ whos past his best means nothing but the nash who won back 2 back mvps and dirk who took dallas to finals in 06 would have bin a tougher test
Jordan at 40 still dicking them. Jordan in his prime on the weak ass zone d with defensive 3 seconds would get 40 a night. Not only was he Faster and stronger then everyone else. He was much smarter. And you see that finding his open shots busting up the weak ass zone.
If u look closely at some of the moves Nash starting doing in this game, they were almost exact copies of Jordans moves, Nash was smart, you wanna be the best play like the best, and he may not be the best overall or have a championship but at the end of his career no matter what he's still walking away with MVP's
Technique is what allowed Michael to play that old. No argue about who´s better than Mike... No kobe, No Lebron, No Carter... they don´t have it. Kobe is the closest but he won´t be like Mike, he has gotten the highest level he can. Lebron is still young, but if you are intelligent you´ll notice immediately that he won´t have Jordan´s style never. Vince... no comments!
Magic Johnson vs Michael Jordan. That's probably the best challenge of anybody. Jordan vs Bird is another. Kobe's not even in the top 5 Lakers of all time so being better than the GOAT???? Makes no sense.
Tha´s what I´ve been supporting all the time, Jordan is in another level, beyond Kobe, Lebron, Vince... even when people use to compare him with them because of similar plays. Anyway... Jordan has been the best so for and hé will be... until we have another athlete, you know what I mean? Jordan wasn´t only a basketball player, he was an amazing athlete.
No offense to Kobe but we will have to wait until Kobe retires to compare them because I don't know of anyone who could be that good at forty years old he was better at forty than most guys are at 25. he was right in the conversation for best shooting guard and the MVP at the age of forty.
this game is great, but also sad... no denying MJ still had what it took to excel in the NBA..I think it was honorable to try to life the Wizards...but just think if MJ would have came back with a decent team. Put him on a team like the Kings or even the Pacers at this time, and watch out world....
hes got all the moves. as a kid i only saw him play on the wizards, so i thought he wasnt as good because he didnt win championships.i never realized even at age 40 he was still one of the best in the league.
Well, MJ is amazing. But the fact that that happened isn't like...completely mind boggling. Neither Nash nor Nowitzki were MVP's at that time...so...MJ schooled.
i actually found it quite disrespectin when the commenters called jordan "the old man"...i understand that he's old but the fact that was unstoppable before and he still got it now...makes me refer him as "the legend" instead...that's on the reals tho...that's my respect to Michael Jordan
the skill of MJ is very consistent if it just wasn't for his KNEE, because he played for a long time and during the time when he retired his knees is not used in resting all the time, and as he returns to the game his knees were always having water
i can imagine how deadly MJ can be if he was twice as fast on every move he executed, he would have blown the Mavs out! MJ is and will always be a LEGEND!!!
(cont.) Walton then explains that when you absolutely needed a rebound, Jordan would always come up with them. They revisited this notion a couple of times throughout the game. And then, as if on cue, Jordan grabs about 4 crucial rebounds in the final 3 minutes of the game, including two offensive iirc. Walton then essentially says "see? I was correct." Jordan was a fantastically underrated rebounder.
Incidentally, at the 1:05 mark, the beginning of that exchange between Walton and Tolbert begins with Walton calling Jordan "the best rebounder in the league back in the day," to which Tolbert responds by saying that Barkley was. (cont.)
The work he does to get open at 4:38, and then the shot over a great defender. Poking the ball away from Nash at 4:57 and then nearly blocking his shot after the recovery (Jordan needed to ganble there because they were down and were trying to force a TO). The final shot at 5:10 under extreme duress. Just an amazing game overall.
The insane block on Van Exel at 3:20. Some people like to act as though Jordan got all his steals and blocks by gambling, but here you see him perfectly playing the off-the-ball screen action which was trying to free up Dirk, and only flashing across the lane for the block when it's apparent that Van Exel was taking it all the way himself, and when Van Exel could not see Jordan coming. Perfect timing and great effort from a 40 year old.
Look at the perfect reverse dribble on Van Excel at 2:55 (no one today executes reverse dribbles at full speed as well as Jordan did), and then the perfect fake on Nowitzki (he had to fake out to the side to get Dirk jumping outwards so he had room to step through), and then look how he protected the ball on the step-through, avoiding reaching hands and allowing him a clean look at the rim. Perfect.
How easily he gets past Adrian Griffin at 1:27 despite missing the shot. The entire sequence at 1:58 where he reads the defense perfectly and changes direction on a dime, plus the little hop step (again, no one has ever used the hop step more effectively) and finish as he jumps sideways off the hop step. At 2:21, look at how he goes between the legs and then brings the ball HIGH through the reaching defenders to split them on the hop step (again).
the move on 2:21 is just classic jordan. to me that's the most effective crossover ever in the nba. jordan didnt have to drible extra for same or better effect.
i was watching the 69 point game and he has a crossover jumper just like that, the quick change of direction without losing any momentum is just beautiful.
So many amazing plays here: look at how he sniffs out that play at 19 seconds and cuts in front of Dirk to intercept the pass; just tremendous anticipation. Look how quickly he reads the defense at 1:08 to get to a spot for an open shot, and how he sets up the shot with a perfect hop step and by bringing the ball high between the defenders' hands -- no one ever used the hop step as well as Jordan in such a variety of contexts.
i agree. jordan's hopstep is just so natural. i dont know how to discribe. he is not forcing it like other, judging by how light the step actually is. the whole move is just smooth, i think that's why he got away with a lot of travelling call just because he is too smooth.
If you play and your older, what happens when you take time off?? It takes months to regain any skills and endurance, even then you've lost gains you'll never recover again. Even after his first retirement, he wasn't the same, although enough to be the dominant player of the day. Imagine if he never retired, there would be no arguments on who was the greatest.
His vertical wasn't the same of course, but if he would've had at the very least, 5 more inches on it, his jumper and fade would've been that much more hard to stop. Combined with a faster first step...he's even that much harder to defend.
He's shooting more ft and his percentage is up to .460 around that much.
His first step would've been respected. This is HUGE cuz it opens up the rest of his game. This is what kept him from shooting a higher percentage. It allowed defenders to play him that much tighter since he couldn't blow by them.
respect and honor his career, you can say shit about his worstcomeback of the year, but true fans like me still loved watching him play even though the outcome is not the same as usual.
great to see you post again jxn23. i like how you can really see his speed getting slow. but still he managed to score no matter what. he is just so complete that no other nba player can compare with.
looks how little extra move he needed to score a basket. it is just crazy.
If he had played 4 new jersey or teamed up wit vince he wouldve won another championship but if he did go to jersey he would hav to go bak to bein 45 caz 23 is retired there

Look how quickly he reads the defense at 1:08 to get to a spot for an open shot, and how he sets up the shot with a perfect hop step and by bringing the ball high between the defenders' hands -- no one ever used the hop step as well as Jordan in such a variety of contexts.

i agree. jordan's hopstep is just so natural. i dont know how to discribe. he is not forcing it like other, judging by how light the step actually is. the whole move is just smooth, i think that's why he got away with a lot of travelling call just because he is too smooth.

if i'm not mistaken,a 39 year old mvp candidate! simply the greatest ever!

He's shooting more ft and his percentage is up to .460 around that much.
andgar923 4 years ago
His first step would've been respected. This is HUGE cuz it opens up the rest of his game. This is what kept him from shooting a higher percentage. It allowed defenders to play him that much tighter since he couldn't blow by them.

Not even a young Jordan, but a "healthier" Jordan, would easily have his way.
Lets face it, he was never gonna be 100% healthy, but even this is what a 75% healthy MJ would've done.
andgar923 4 years ago
respect and honor his career, you can say shit about his worstcomeback of the year, but true fans like me still loved watching him play even though the outcome is not the same as usual.

I know the following are alot of "would've" and "could've"....
But what if MJ didn't rush his return and started to prepare himself accordingly?
What if Artest never broke his ribs?
andgar923 4 years ago
I think it's safe to say that he would have been better, at least in his first year with the Wizards.
Artest was regretful about Jordan's injury and basically said the same thing.

great to see you post again jxn23. i like how you can really see his speed getting slow. but still he managed to score no matter what. he is just so complete that no other nba player can compare with.
looks how little extra move he needed to score a basket. it is just crazy.

I second that, nice job dude.
A washed-up oldie can compete with the best in the NBA, now imagine what a prime Jordan would do today.
I believe it was Paul Pierce who said that the old MJ was still amongst the 10-20 best players in the league.
Again, nice upload.

thanks....just shows how pathetic these players are.
LOL
Jordan giving Bell the business as well. If a 39 yr old Jordan can score on him that easily, of course a 29 yr old Kobe is gonna have his way.
