  • @turboturbine666

its aluminium in uk. aluminum over there!

    we use queens english

  • any modifications to the drill press, from the chuck up?

I want to do this but plan to install extra bearings, at least one anyway JUST above the chuck below the bearing that's already there! as well as a flood lube/coolant system. I'm tired of all these people bitching about bearings and this and that. If it's a good quality drill press with HD components it will stand up to aluminum. Or just replace the damn bearings IF they even fail. I will also pin the MT probably through the tang slot. :)

  • @docstruthers

no pther modifications apart from adding a servo to lift and lower the z height.

the press i have is also sold as a mill (with addition of a drawbar) but i couldnt add that.it does have very heavy duty side load bearings.

to be fair, its quite poor as a mill as it doesnt have enough weight so it does chatter if you try to take heavier cuts.

but it works superbly for automated drilling of holes all day!

  • @automateanything Hi what kind of clamps do you use?Is it safe with only two?

    Thanks

  • @weskoki

for that job 2 off m10 bolts with washers supported by mdf blocks.- not technical! but was strong enough for that job.

  • Drill press is a worthless maching unless it's converted.

Mill and lathe are more useful.

  • @Ibringthetruth1

    good for drilling holes though!

  • I like to use compressed air instead of a brush operated by a foot pedal. Brushes just get chewed up by the bit.

  • re shavings. the rails are thk precision rails which have sealed/wiped ways..

these are covered with the bellows so everything is quite well protected.

the machine is only used for drilling and small work now. i have 2 huge routers here to do everything else.

these videos were just done when i was getting used to and playing with mach wizards.

  • yes. i knew this was dangerous as there is nothing actually holding the taper in. but it did make some nice accurate motor to gearbox adaptors for the next project. (before the taper dropped out) its now just used for accurate drill alignment and drilling cycles. it was a fun weekend project though. see my other videos for the latest , bigger projects. cnc is a fun fun but time consuming hobby!

  • isint the shavings getting into the roller rails a problem??

  • Hope you live close to a hospital buddy, this is an accident waiting to happen.

Drill presses aren't made to take side loads. Neither are drill chucks.

Either the chuck arbor will come loose or the chuck will detach from it's arbor and you'll have a good pound of razor sharp metal bouncing around.
