Linux style:

1. Create and boot from a Live CD/USB

2. Use chntpw (obtain from Synaptic or repos if you don't have it). This can be done before hand in the event that your "friend" doesn't have an internet connection.

3. (Google how to use chntpw) Reset any pw in XP, Vista, or 7

4. Restart into Windows

--Or--

In Linux, mount the Windows partition and do whatever you want to your "friends" files, leaving no footprint whatsoever, given that you physically clean up when you're done. :)

Or, when your in regular mode at the password screen, just hit ctrl+alt+dlt and then type administrator for the user name and no password, will do same thing except wont be on safe mode :)

You don't need the safe mode. You have access to Administrator account over ctrl+alt+del+del, and that's if your friend is stupid enough not to put password on administrator account.

I'm no expert so I don't know any way of hacking an account, but at least I know what I wrote up there.

lol So you expect all Administrator passwords to be blank? You don't even need to put it in safe mode to log in on Administrator. Simply press Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice at the home screen. And why take out his password? Just use the Administrator account to do whatever.

Uh, this doesnt bypass your just logging into the admin account, an easier way is where you enter the user password, press control alt and delete and then login as Administrator with no password, you dont have to touch safe mode.

You didn't write what doesn't work.

If by pressing F8 you get a screen in which you have to choose from where to boot your PC (a:, disk with windows folder or cd drive), then try pressing f5 instead
