Because that's how it effects you. Hate to go all arty on you, but you are free to feel whatever you want about anything. I haven't watched this yet, I may also find it incredibly depressing.
It's nice to see a connection between you and a wicked artist, be that negative or not. I have felt repulsed, overjoyed and even turned on by different art pieces. To this day the only emotion I've found that denounces art would be absolute indifference.
So excited to have found this collaborative video between Nam June Paik and Jud Yalkut. For more of Yalkut's works check out "Us Down By the RIverside" (1966) in the LUX Collection
Look all u have to do is experience it with an open mind. If it doesnt speak to u on any level dont stress over it. Nam June is one of the 20th Centurys great artists - the grand daddy of video art.
PS. Not sure if Id call Hirst a genius compared to Piak, no way.
Sound and image connected in a poetic ballet, Paik was an e-sound artist before playing with video images, if anything Electronic Moon no2 shows his time-based musical influence in exploring (visual) reality.. what a beautiful, funny, witty vision of the moon!
I think a great art can be interpreted differently by individual. Everything is hard. I am pretty sure Mr. Paik put an effort to create this. One thing you might want to try is to detach yourself from the thought of hard work and greatness. Don't try to find "hard work" and "greatness" in it. Just try to see it with an pure eye. Then you might see something that you didn't see in the first time. If you still don't like it, it's cool. It doesn't matter anyway.
Youve got a point there but ask yourself this: Does it not undermine the great lenghts artists have gone thru to create magnificent pieces thruougt history?
How would you explain to a child why this is better in your opinion (or in anyones) than say the sixtine chapel or daffingers work ... they took years for what they did ... not copying someone elses music and mixing it with weird pictures ...
I understand modern art ... i mean Damien Hirst is a genius but this i realy dont get...
iam sorry to pop the nausiating questions again but: what is art? who is an artist?
i guess opinions vary from person to person but what youre watching here isnt pideonholed in the same catagory of "art" to that of the works of daffinger and the like. i dont think it undermines the idea of "art" in any way. i think it strengthens it, by showing that an "artist" doesnt need to obey the blue prints from the big guy or conform to the tastes of the majority to create stuff that people want to see.
@neonaction Your idea actually is a form of art. It's called "anti-art artwork" and basically, it's something you call art to question the integrity of what art is.

Ok so am I the only one who finds it ridicolous to call this "art"?
Whats the reason behind it? How did the "artist" have to work to do this? I mean its neither hard to do nor such a great thing to watch so I realy dont get it ...
its a subjective thing really... its only a great thing to watch if you understand te reason behind it. and to understand the reason behind it...you'll have to be...less...stupid.
Oh most certainly it is a matter of intelligence! So it is safe to say your I.Q. is a tested 139 then? Only then your statement would be true ... by one point ;-)
Now, tell me this: Why would you, beeing as smart as you obviously are, write something so useless and unimaginative instead of simply TELLING me the "reason behind it"?
Or is your genius bound to some kind of exclusivity?
That would make you either a silent genius or a loud fool. Both are equally useless.
beautiful! does anyone know where i can purchase some kind of video-collection of nam june paik's works?

@rebelproduction I put TREMENDOUS effort into create this sentence. I called my sentence art art!
The following is my "sentence" art:
flaskjdf KKKKKKKUPEFDCCVBB,MCCLKCLJKOQOQLwlkJK
Now If i just say some cool sounding shit, and put that in a gallery, I would be an artist. Fuck yeah!
