  • really nice tip but what about if i want to tilt the second and third tier how can i do it can you please explain how can i do it please....

  • do they selltylose at Michael's or do you get it online?

  • @marvinromeo18

it's in craft stores and office supply stores.

  • hello mayen..what material did you use on your cake board?a styro?a wood? or a box? thanks for sharing your videos they are really great

  • it's called a foamcore board and you can buy it in craft stores.

  • i might be wrong but when your making a topsy turvy cake you still need to place each cake on level otherwise you still have a chance of it falling over.

so instead of placing the cakes sideways you must cut a flat area of the cake and then you can place it flat but it will look turned.

  • @wchild56

i get what you are saying- but for this technique, you dont have to do that. you can have four level cakes, each placed on a wedge - facing opposite ways... you have to anchor the cakes to the wedges--- just be sure to anchor them well and it will hold. ive seen much taller cakes done that way.

  • Don't blame you! I'd nail that thing down too:) lol

    Thank you for the tips:)

  • Hi Mayen, Thanks for been so helpful. I would like to know the color that you used for this cake board. Thanks again!!!

  • if i remember correctly, it's the lime green color-- not sure if it shows well in this video..lime green for the bottom board, and egg yellow for the smaller one

  • Thank you so much for all your help!

  • Mayen,Thank you for the recipe-will try it soon.I hope you dont mind another question, after I crumb coat the cake,do I need to put another coat of icing and then put it again in the fridge then that's when I put the fondant? Thanks again.

  • sorry for the late reply... but you have it right. usually a second coat is done and it will depend on your if you want this thick or not. but at this stage, you will notice that the crumb coat will be doing its job bec the crumbs will not mess the second coat anymore.

  • Thank you so much Mayen! I wondered how to do it without the carving as I seen other cakes tilted and not carved. I think I might just try this. Thanks for all your tutorials!

  • You're very good at explaining things Mayen! I've never done a topsy turvy cake because I didn't like the idea of having to carve up the cake ... but I like this idea. Might have to give it a try.

  • Thank you for replying,I am interested in the recipe!!!Do you eat everything in your cake???never had a fondant cake in my life .cAN you recommend a cake book that is good for a beginner from another planet ;:)Thanks.

  • Hello!Such an awesome talent!!!Got very lucky to come across your videos!!!I am preparing for my son's first birthday this march and would like to bake a cake, but I dont have any idea at all how to....can you post/send me ingredients and how to bake it, really appreciate it...my husband dont have faith in my cooking baking skills.Thank you, worse comes to worse I will buy store made icing. Thanks again.

  • hi:) and thanks. if it will be a first time to make it... id concentrate in making great icing rather than the cake. there are real good box cake mixes out there BUT there are NO good icing for sale. mixing a good decent cake with awesome icing will make a huge difference. do u like the super sweet kind of icing found in grocery cakes? IF NOT, then email me so i can send you the recipe

  • Great tutorial. Now I can visualize what you were talking about. The little charters at the end of the video look absolutely perfect. Do you use any type of ribbon?

or does it have to be FDA approved ribbons?

  • the ribbons are the ordinary craft ribbons you see at craft stores. these dont get in contact with the cake anyway--and even if they do, they dont stick to the cake, so they should be ok. i dont know of any fda rule about using ribbons for decor.

  • Thanks for the info. I was just being curious. I thought I needed a special ribbon.

  • Hi Mayen! I'm curious as to how you attach your ribbon to the edges of your cake board? Does your ribbon ever detatch wile you're transporting your cakes? Let me know when you get a chance. Thanks!

  • the fondant does not go all the way to the side of the cake board...so the ribbon is attached with tacky glue or elmers glue...it holds pretty well :) just make sure to smooth out the glue so that when it dries it wont leave streaky marks on the ribbon .

  • Thanks mayen for sharing!

  • I just love your cakes!!! What fondant recipe did you use if you don't mind my asking? I have been practicing like crazy and just hate when I run out of fondant at 11:00 at night....... Thanks in advance
