  • MY UNCLE R.I.P. USED TO PLAY THIS STUFF IN HIS ROOM. I USED TO LISTEN BY THE DOOR AFTER I CAME HOME FROM THE STREETS LIKE, WOW THIS SHIT IS HARD! THANK YOU UNCLE FOR BEING SO HIP. PEACE TO OLD FOLKS FOR STARTING THE COUNTER CULTURE! ..PEACE!

  • God do i love youtube!! this video is incredible!!! RTF Rocks!!!

  • The synchronization throughout is some Hot Stuff

  • right around 1:00 - sex face?

  • Radiohead ripped off the beginning piano part in Everything in it's Right Place.

  • @Sydneypoops So what are you gonna do about it? ;0)

  • Jazz music rules!!! So with fusion Jazz, rock, techno, etc.

Anyway jazz is way better than hip hop and rnb.

I dont care for talking fast lyrics with back ground that keeps repeating itself.

Hell with hip hop, rap, rnb.

anyway that video of beyond 7th galaxy is good but I like the studio version of that song on return too forever cd. featuring chick corea.

Hymm of the 7th galaxy is good too an it sounds almost the same as beyond.

  • I remember those black electric pianos- my first keyboard.- they were built just like an acoustic piano (with strings) and had to be similarly tune (though when mine drifted I just drifted with it)... ah, the days before computers when we wanted to execute like computers (with speed and precision)...

  • This video should be 18+, they are practically having sex with their instruments.

  • What a dynamic performance. They made some great fusion music - both live and on record. The Electric Band didn't move me anywhere near as much - tho' I never quite moved with the times...

  • Al is cute as hell

  • I had the distinguished opportunity to hear RTF's reunion in 2008. Absolutely breathtaking!!

  • Okay - Chick is very talented, but it is matter of opinion and taste as to who is "easily" the most talented musician in this video. All of these stellar musicians are accomplished in their own rights. Chick did not write all the music on this particular album - composition honors are shared by all on this disc. Of the 8tracks on Where Have I Known You Before, Corea wrote 5, so he gets props for that - with one for Clarke, one for White and another cowritten by all. Keep it real.

  • RTF, Weather Report, Herbie Handcock and various other fusion groups were started after their leaders left whatever Miles Davis was doing at the time and decided to go on their own. Miles was miles ahead of us and had a knack for finding others who could flow with him. After they left they began to flow in the direction they felt.

  • @jtaray a lot of guys came and went from miles band for a hundred reasons and not all were superstar material. i'd say it's more likely everybody knew he was the guy to jam with, so hot stuff collected in the band, stayed as long as they could bear or had interest, and grew while they were there. I wouldn't necessarily see Miles himself in the engineering room of the many developments that happens in his jam spaces and on his records, not to take away from the individual players and minds

  • al di Meola would have been 20 years old in this video, wow

  • can you imagin if al di meola took up billy cobhams offer instead of chick coreas?

  • GOOD POINT SednaDeli , some people just dont know what theyre talking about - Chick ROCKS !!!

  • Yeah man, that's definitely just you, since that guy on the keyboard wrote this music.

  • @HitThatJiveJack writes "that guy on the keyboard wrote this music"

I had this on vinyl years ago; I seem to recall from the liner notes that credits for this tune was written by the drummer, Lenny White.

Of course, the idea you're replying to, namely that the keyboard is superfluous in this tune is totally ridiculous.

  • @HitThatJiveJack Sorry, nope. I got that mixed up with "The Shadow of Lo" which was written by Lenny.

  • @xboxliveman177

What, you mean the guy that wrote all the music?

I can understand not liking the sound of electric keyboards, but seriously, he is easily the most talented musician in this video. If anything, he's what really makes this tune awesome.

  • They're all talented in their own ways brutha.

  • Chick Corea, the keyboardist, founded this band. He is needed. Over the top? Yes! This is Experimental-Jazz-Fusion-Rock. Over the top is a must!

  • @xboxliveman177 Obviously you haven't a clue as to who Chick is and how important he was in CREATING jazz fusion. Listen to Spain, or jump in front of bus, dipshit. THATS HIS BAND!!!!!

  • Heaven!!!

  • Oh, there are youngsters that can cop Di Meola, they're out there. Where are the keyboard youngsters that can cop Chick !

  • There is Thomas Enhco, just turned 21, plays for years his own beautiful music, great piano, and violin. If he would be American he would be very well known by now. But he is French. His first CD came out in Paris, when he was 16, it is superb. His second CD came out in July in Japan, it is also beautiful.

  • Ollie McGill from The Cat Empire?

  • i've been at his concert 2 years ago in the city in italy where he come from among the walls of an old castle. it was fantastic and he is still one of the best guitar player

  • You're not far off, Di Meola is only 21 here!!! Where are today's 21-year olds who can play like this?

  • surely there are some out there. people still love music, it's a matter of recognition. the general public is more interested in crap music.

  • di meola looks like he was 18!

  • so very.........god-like....

  • Iconic

  • Chick looks like a maths teacher! Still sounds awesome!

  • It's kind of subversive isn't it? Like he'd teach you algebra using telepathy.

  • clark phenomenal

  • Compared to 2008 tour, what has changed? Instruments, tech, the spirit, the whole world?

  • i think i know what you're saying.

jazz is mostly about improvisation....a genuine expression of the musician's ideas and feelings if you will..... now, how would that expression sould like if he's there for an "easy-money" reunion tour/album/dvd?

  • This is AAAWWEESSOOMMMEE!!!!

  • i love them so much chick is so ace

    instrumentals rock my world

check out my band at my page

  • totally fabulous!!!!

  • milliondollarboy ... The comment and the name says it all ... z?

  • saw RTF in 1973 for $5 at the UW Hub. there were no chairs. folks just sat on the floor...smokin...and tokin. RTF kicks ass!!!

  • Al Di Meola is 21 in this! He looks like a teenager.

  • Short piece but of highest quality, as usual as far as they are concerned !

  • Is it a Rhodes Mark I Chick is playing? And what are the both other keyboards ?

  • A Hohner Clavinet D6 I guess and a Moog Minimoog D type.

  • and the keyboards on Chick's left are: Yamaha Electone and on top an Arp Odyssey Mk1 whiteface

  • When you put it into perspective, the time, the way things were expected to be done etc this is actually mind blowing material.

    Real inovators and pioneers. Awesome.

  • Wow... Jerry Lewis was a great keyboard player back on those days.

  • uhh thats chick corea playing keyboard

  • Good call. Made me laugh for 2 days. From now on every time I see Chick I will think of Jerry Lewis sitting there playing fusion with those goofy teeth.Thanx

  • There is no one better than Lenny White. Man!

  • only music that is pretensious is todays.

They dress up like lamb but play like mutton.

    Jazz rock and prog FOREVER!

Oh and Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway-love the funk.

  • 70's Stevie Wonder is excellent, but you should try Parliament, Graham Central Station and James Brown with Bootsy Collins era

  • That dude plays like Larry Dunn a bit.

  • whiterobin is a d-bag

  • I saw RTF perform on this tour in the spring of '75 at Brown University Gymnasium, sitting on the gym floor for a $7.00 admission, and I was blown away. I have waited fot 33 years to see the band play again! Tonight, I will see them play in NYC. I can't wait! Thanks for posting this.

  • iagree ive got a small willyas well

  • no their song titles were not pretentious. It was the 70's and imaginary mystical space and drug influenced themes were common. If those things inspired them to create this great music then I'm all for it, the 70's rule. but also remember Chick was into the Scientology crap even way back then, so I'm sure the titles connect somehow into that nonsense for him.

  • Chick is STILL massively into Scientology.

  • HEY! Is that STANLEY CLARK MY MY MY BEAUTIFUL.

  • creative*1000

  • Awesome! Thanks for uploading this dude!

Just went to see the reunion last Saturday in Houston. Incredible. Good thing my dad dragged me to this concert haha.

  • Great!!

Please upload "Song to the Pharaoh Kings" if You can!

    Thanks.

  • RTF has never performed this song to a TV audience.

  • So sad ! My favorite fusion tune ever... But thanks a lot for posting !

  • @mahavishnu018 even though in another video chick says....."the last piece we played is titled...see above."
