  • You guys are 100% correct when you say that Boris williams was the Cure's all-time-best drummer. praise Boris! Andy Anderson was pretty good-- but not as good as Boris.

  • What is that contraption supposed to be? His own special burden?

  • I had this on a VHS many, many years ago. Great to see it again.

  • I love Tim Pope's work here. It's very simple, but yet meaningful. All his videos are great. Thank you for posting.

  • Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm glad the Ian and his Bunnie's never got big as U2, for I have been enjoyed being up close with them in small venues for over 20 + yrs!!

  • It isn’t often that an artist has the resources, budget, or creativity to bring their audio lyrics to life. Ian McCulloch has triumphed over this challenge. Proud to Fall seeks your attention. Impossible to resist, the viewer is locked tight with a sympathy grip watching McCulloch struggle to carry the world over his shoulder, 1 earnest step at a time. Ian becomes ‘the little train that could’ – chains, flames and all. After all, everyone loves a happy ending.

  • This has been the song I've turned to after a few lost relationships - poignant and catchy - can make you cry sometimes.

  • The O.C.D., Genius of British Popular Music

  • I got Candleland for Christmas this year, along with Mysterio, Echo & the Bunnymen, Porcupine, Burned, and the book "Turquoise Days: The Weird World of Echo & the Bunnymen." Needless to say it was the best Christmas ever :)

  • @bookwormgal1996 oh my god, can i say how lucky you are? Oh god <3

  • @bookwormgal1996

Glad you got Candleland and Mysterio! I got them the day they were released and never understood why I felt I was the only one to know who Ian was, always nice to see someone other than me knows this music. Thanks to youtube!

  • wow my favorite song!!! ....thanks kingofrot

  • One of my favorite song of the 80's....

  • Best british voice, by far

  • One of the best songs of the late 80s. perfect in every way.

  • I remember this song well. Ian and the Bunnymen were a big influence on my music career as a Guitarist- Singer/Songwriter. Judge for yourself ;-)

  • This is a Song The Bunnymen never could have pulled off properly. Though I know It would have sold better under their name, which is totally stupid, the same with Elecrafixion, I'm glad it happened the way it did. Candleland was the album of my life in my teens. It's all about saying goodbye to childhood and it makes me sad that I related to it at the age of 16 and still relate to it now at 34. Thank God Echo and Ian are still going pretty strong to this day. Their 1995 Siberia was great

  • Paul is a great song writer and I dig the replacements but as a soloist he tries to come off sounding like Bob Dylan a little too much. funny intro. Why did he think Ian wouldn't be a "Smart guy" (eloquent choice of words btw.. LOL) I guys Ian has a reputation of being a wild drunk who curses a lot. I know the members of Echo and the Bunnymen had a lot of issues with him. Wasn't his character in a bit part for the film "24 hour party people" in the alley-way fight scene? Ian rules over Paul.

  • Thanks for posting this. Always loved this song and Mac looks great in the video. Nice to see that Paul Westerberg (another godlike genius) is a fan.

  • Great video. Mac looks brilliant. The Westerberg introduction is a nice touch - didn't know he was a fan.

  • oh yeah Paul REALLY has a nice thing going(psyche)...............Ian has it going on----way better than "Paul"

  • Ian... Still the greatest.

  • "That idiot" is Paul Westerberg, former lead singer of the Replacements- which were a fantastic alternative band, and which certainly makes him "worthy" to introduce Ian. By the way, have you not heard of a little site called Google? Honestly.

  • I always thought Ian McCulloch and Nick Heyward appeared to be separated at birth... Nick went with the pressed trousers and sweaters look for Haircut 100, and Ian took his clothing cues from Robert Smith. I wonder if these two guys know each other?

  • It's Paul Westerberg, you moron!

  • Still dont know about him...

  • Who the f**k is that idiot making those comments before the video starts.....

  • @favdiabetes lol Hilarious that you don't know who Paul Westerberg is. Things that make you go...hmmmmm.

  • @favdiabetes

I agree with you totally. Never heard of that idiot either, and having a name, which we were told anyway, makes no difference I still haven't heard of him, and nothing he said in this intro made him worthy to introduce Ian McCulloch. This video has a few seconds longer than the other one without the idiot introduction. The difference between them is something like erm a pile of fast food fries with ketchup and a seventeenth century palace banquet.

  • The yellow sky in the early part is very Bring On The Dancing Horsesesque, or am I missing the whole point! :)

  • @ Boris Williams: return to THe Cure and save them! your replacement is ruining your drum patterns!!!!!

  • Best song The Church never wrote!!

  • The great Boris Williams (ex The Cure) playing the drums!

    BORIS, WE MISS YOU!

  • Dragging that sled is the most work Mac has ever done in his life. This is back when his voice was still intact, he wore decent shoes, had a good haircut, shaved and didn't have sunglasses surgically attached to his face. I miss that Mac.

  • I totally understand this video. He is carrying material possessions and it is cumbersome. He finally lets go of materialism and watches it burn and he raises his arms to the sky as a sign of relief. Damn. Now that's a metaphor!!!

  • Why not? I mean if that's what you get from the video... Actually on that cart you can spot stuff from former Bunnymen videos so I think the original idea is Ian McCulloch letting go of his Bunnymen heritage so that he can start afresh...

  • great song and a great artist . . . i love new wave!!!

  • Classic!!!!!!!!!

  • I think I wore out my 7 inch single version of this. Haven't seen this for years.

  • I love New Wave. This song is bringing Good Old Memories. Wow. I love you it.

  • song brings back memories of my college days...i have the cd. havent seen the video in 20 years.

  • nice poetic figures. Ian was a great songwriter and an awesome musician. An Artist, iow!

  • Awesome

  • When He tis song at SKY UK Top 50 in 1989 is Top 43

  • Clássico dos anos 80...Excelente canção ..o vocal de Ian me lembra muito o de Morrisey (The Smiths)...bom demais.

  • Georgous...

  • i'm through....my heart cant' take much more...

  • Thank you so much for posting this!

  • превосходная песня! Ян вы сказовы!

    Timeless song!

  • Scose cunt or not, still a genius.

  • Thank you bunnEgirl for steering me back to this video by listing it amongst your favorites. It's now nigh unto 19 years since I last heard it on the radio.

  • you guys made remember that Boris the ex-Cure drummer played in a couple of songs on Ian´s first solo album. That guy rocked! a great drummer and percussionist (i saw him in The Cure Unplugged).

    Long life to Boris Williams!

  • couldn't replace defreites though

  • boris didn´t played of Echo but just a couple of songs for Ian... he was heavily involved with The Cure recording the Disintegration album!

  • I SOOO loved this song!!! Haven't seent he Video in 20 YEARS!!!! Thanks for uploading!!!

  • one of the best songs my ears and i have ever listened to. wasnt this song #1 of 200 in the US charts at one point?

itll always be #1 on my charts

  • Yes. Boris Williams played on this song. That guy is a GOD compared to Cure´s new drummer.

  • You are too right, It's my main complaint with the new Cure. Porl coming back was great, but Boris, he was the ultimate Cure drummer, always will be in my opinion

  • Sure I agree with you. But it seems that no too many people notices that Boris was THE CURE along with Robert and Simon and Porl.

But I believe it's understandable. Many young Cure fans have grown listening to the weak and lifeless drumming of Jason...

I hope Boris returns to the band someday and that he is OK now with a health problem he had/has.

    God bless Boris Williams!

  • @graemeislord AMEN.

  • Ian called The Cure´s ex-drummer Boris Williams to play this song.

Williams took The Cure to a very high level. Jason Cooper, Cure´s new drummer, just sucks!

  • Awesome i've been looking for this thanks!

  • la mejor voz inglesa

  • Sublime!

  • Hehehehehe

    "Great lips, great hair.."

    You know it, bro.

  • WOW!!! good video. Keep Up The Good Work MY Friend. Maligno1000.

  • que buen tema de ian los 80,s esto si es musica julio de japon

  • the lyrics is a poem in itself!

  • nice!! this whole album is hard to find

  • Oh wow! Thank you for the upload. It's bloody fucking fantastic.

  • Paul Westerberg? Introducing Ian? Holy Cow!

  • Holy Cow, that`s true!
