@ironkb57 The difference from the standard form comes from the fact that Tori (from a right handed point of view) grips Uke's right sleeve with the left hand and grips the right collar by inserting his fingers inside the collar.
This is very informative, and you break this skill down to each step which makes it easier to learn. But, I am wondering, can you perform this throw in a self defense situation where you and the attacker are wearing street clothes, or is this throw only possible if the people are wearing a gi?? Can this throw be performed at the beach where people are shirtless?
Thank you very much. I like the forward pivot entry. For all forward throws, can one do either a forward or backward pivot? So, for harai goshi, ippon seoi nage, and so on, can one do a forward pivot?
These videos are definitely some of my favorite. You don't just demonstrate the throw but you articulate your thoughts on body mechanics very clearly. You are a huge asset to the judo community.
sensei ante todo un saludo muy cordial y mi agradecimiento por su enseñanza, ya que la tecnica morote seoi nage es muy eficaz y he apreciado que su desequilibrio y su desplazamiento en su aplicacion es muy buena !muchas gracias!
@alwaystars Usually in judo the judoka practice right handed though I practice left handed and do my ippon's and Morote's right handed, Ippon shooting the hand the holds the lapel and morote using both sides of the lapel.
Usually that means your tsurite (right hand if you're doing a right handed throw) is too far behind the rest of arm when executing the throw. Focus on keeping your hand in front of your ear rather than behind it.
@PooJiraiya First things first when you go in curl your whole fist, and as you curl you should look like your showing off your biceps in a bodybuilding pose. As you rotate your elbow needs to be under his arm pits.
@PooJiraiya I had this problem to and I found it was much easier to do the throw and it eliminated all pain when I gripped lower on the lapel. I usually maintain a high collar but for this one I found grabbing about mid-breast was much more effective.

Thanks for the video, I've been working on doing morote seoi nage this way and it's not only made it more efficient, but has eliminated the shoulder and elbow problems I got when I did seoi nage before.
thank you sensei, one of the japanese judoka told me to bring the thrust the elbow to armpit, but our sensei shows us the way you are throwing, thank you. thanks sensei
I've been practicing this throw for quite a year now.. but I'm not atheletic at all so it is not master yet ^^ anyway thank you very much for posting this video, it helps! ^_^
I´m 6 feet tall, and i still work on this technique since i strongly believe it helps to develop my judo, regardless i might be able to either throw someone on shiai or not.
This video, as well as others posted from the same sensei, have been very helpfull for me and my training partners.
Thank you very much ptnippon for taking the time to post these vids. I hope you might find in a near future the motivation to post a few more.
to answer "finaifav99"'s question: Several things could happen so that someone could take an arm bar. You let yourself get out of position. You did not have enough kazushi. You did not have enough control. Many other things. There are always ways to counter a throw. So, you have to be correct in technique and you have to be fast. These two things together will make it much more difficult to counter. Unless they are faster and have better technique.
I'm 6'1, and am often told to forget this throw since most of my opponents will be shorter than me thus i won't get it. Do you agree with this? BTW awesome video :)
I wouldn't forget the throw, however it means you need to squat lower to get your opponent's center of gravity below yours. Leg strength is key and it will depend on your ability on how low and quickly you can squat while maintaining balance.
I want to say great explanation on the videos. I have used a shoulder throw I was taught and been sucessfull in a serious self defence situation as a kid. I have always wanted to learn some more moves so I have subscribed to your channel. The throw I was taught does not require a uniform. Say you are in a fight and your opponent does not have sufficiant clothing on, are there alot of improvisations to use with most judo moves? If so could you explain and possibly make some videos? Great channel!
ye bloody heaps. Look up Karo Parisyian. UFC pro has, black belt in judo; adapted alot of throws for mma where they fight with no shirts and only trunks. cept instead of grabbing cloths, u would use underhooks and holding of tricep and bicep muscles
Hi, nice instruction. Just one question, kinda notice that when you do the throw, your body is a bit sidways...sort of at an angle rather than your back being square in front of uke...is this just your preference?
I just have to thank you for taking the time to make these videos. Your insight is very helpful and is helping me to understand the concepts behind the throws much better. I know it is a lot of hard work on your part but I just want you to know that it is not unappreciated.
sensei i have a question......
what's the difference between the eri-seoi-nage and morote-seoi-nage?

Try placing your forearm under the uke's armpit, sort of combing you hair while throwing..

I'm just a beginner at Judo, so I'm wondering, isn't the right hand supposed to grab the lapel? Or isit because he's left-handed or something?

Love this throw. Often use it in BJJ with Ippon Seoi Nage.
My only question is in case of a failed throw, how do I keep my back from being taken?

can you post one about uchi mata?
and some ground fighting?
indeed, you have a very good insight. it's like youre more of leverage than strength, which make it a lot easier and effective.
again, thank u.
