i don't believe everything after take to the skies was terrible....it was certainly different, and personally i dislike their new direction...(ie dubstep replaced trance, spoken word replaced actual...you know singing etc.) but they have attracted new fans...while sadly alienating many of the fans like you and i..who were there from the onset and miss the old sound...i just accepted the fact bands change, people change...its natural
Im not saying this because im one of those f every band except us. But enter shikari is probably on of the most expiremental and creative bands ever. A genre of their own
I feel like old Enter Shikari is like old Linkin Park. Those of us who knew the bands in the beginning have a hard time hearing such a different sound from what we grew up with. I didn't know ES before Take to the Skies, so I think all of their stuff sounds amazing to me. LP however; they were one of the first bands I listened to, so hearing shit like Minutes to Midnight after listening to Hybrid Theory and all of their demos is extremely hard for me. But I get what all of you guys are feeling.
@Patchworkdrum i know exactly where you're coming from. LP were my first band aswell, and i didn't even bother buying their latest album, went completely down hill. But I suppose bands have to change because if they stayed the same, they would be boring. You can't always like the direction they go, but hey, you can always listen to their old songs.
@YeahhBruv I agree also, i really do miss their stuff like this, i wish we could go back. But as Enter Shikari said on one of their threads, " Progress is progress, we are gonna keep on moving a long", and hey, you never know. They might come back?
@Patchworkdrum I cannot tell you how similar my experience is to yours. I was so hyped for the first LP single after Meteora so I got home after school one day and tried to find the video somewhere and I was greeted with a leather clad Chester singing about global warming. What the fuck.
@aSneakyTeapot I actually like A Thousand Suns a lot more than Minutes because it's a step backwards. I think the problem isn't the direction of their music, be it Linkin Park or Enter Shikari (who's album actually sounds more like a refined version of TTTS), but rather the transition. Linkin Park went from Numb and Nobody's Listening to What I've Done and In Pieces, which was a radical transition. At least Hybrid Theory to Meteora was a gradual change. The same goes for Enter Shikari's stuff.
I think you all just need to realise that bands change and progress. Rou hasn't fucked up his throat at all and he can still scream, if you'd have seen them live you would know this. They've progressed and in my opinion the new album is brilliant and for those that say i am a new listener, no i've been listening to them since 2005. If all of there albums sounded like TTS people would still be complaining and saying that it is to similar to the last and doesn't live up to it. Face it.
something happened to rou this band is not the same anymore i think rou wasn't screaming properly on TTTS and before cuz he can't scream the way he used to
@FOR3VERNOBLE Yeah I know what you mean, for me its unbelievably annoying listening to people rating Enter Shikari based on their current music. I guess all the frustration comes down to the fact that Enter Shikari have completely changed. I just hope that the old Shikari will never be forgotten.
The sad thing is that it's not the band decision to change. They kind of had to since Rou fucked his throat up, he can't scream like he used to. Therefore, they changed their style a bit. But I do agree TTTS, Nodding Acquaintance EP, and The Feast EP are when Shikari was at its' best. Still, I love the band.
@FOR3VERNOBLE you speak the truth mate, except its not "terrible", its just... not enter shikari. Take To The Skies is the best album ever fucking created, and they are all musical geniuses. Its just a shame how their music has dropped in standards.
they dont have it on their site...just try searching "Nodding Acquaintance EP" and "Sorry You're Not A Winner EP" and you will find all of Enter Shikari's old school songs...which were loads better than their music now
@Uinb haa yeah i think he was 17 then in 2003. have you heard enter shikari without rory on guitar when they were known as "hybryd"? that was in 1999, so he was like 13 then :S
@psychobadger088 Yeh of course, i have the 5 songs they made. They're great. Back then they were inspired by Muse, if my info is right, and you can really hear it in Rou's voice.
