philly guy..... these NHL athletes spend their entire life training. they miss out on so many things. they are forced to move away form their homes at 15 yrs old(WHL,OHL,QMJHL) Sometimes even overseas. they miss out on all the fun parties because they cannot fall behind in training. They EARN what they have.

Well I agree to an extent that a lot of athletes are overpaid. $45 mil over 2 years for Manny, and he's complaining about wanting more? It seems some players forget that being a professional athlete is a priveledge, not a right.

But on the other hand, if the players didn't get that money, it would just stay in the owners pockets. At least a lot of NHL players donate money to charity every year and give back to their communities.

Yeah, would be great - but I think life as a pro athlete is harder than most people think.

Time on the road, practices, workouts, late nights, staying healthy etc. Remember it is a JOB. Don't get me wrong, all these players a really well off and lucky, but it's not as easy as just showing up to the rink a couple of hours before game time, playing, then going home.

But it's still a heck of a lot sweeter than your average life, especially if you love hockey! I've had the priviledge of at least playing some college puck but I can only imagine what it would've been like in the show.
