Love the Clowns, look healthy, with tropical tbh its allways best to get the biggest tank you cann, you'll always want to fill it, i have 2 bala sharks, and 5 tiger barbs atm, intending to get clowns also. nice tank
they are about six inches or so. I've had one of them about 6 years, the others I bought 'used' so i don't know how old they are. I think a lot of how quick a fish grows has to do with what size tank you keep them in.
@andyt11 Hi there, i have not seen my 3 bala s eat anything since i got them 1 month back....have been feeding floating baby pellets, colour enhancing food, algae wafers,,,,bala don't eat any damn thing.....how are they survivng...??? how to feed them.....plz help...
@BAHADURKAMAR I'm sure they are eating just not when you are around. Mine used to eat shrimp pellets and freeze dried brine shrimp too. You could try those. Not sure how big your tank is but I noticed they are a lot more bold in a bigger tank. They used to hide a lot in the small tank and never really settled in. Also, they seem a lot more confident in a group rather than just a few. Try the shrimp pellets and freeze dried brine shrimp. They shouldnt be able to resist the brine shrimp.
I can only afford a 55 gallon tank right now, I want to get balas and clowns like you have. What is the minimum number of fish of each kind I could get, because I know I need to get more than one, and would they be okay in the 55 gallon?
Clowns I think the more the better. At least 5 or 6. They do a lot better in groups. Clowns can get big as time goes by, a lot of people will tell you a 55g isnt big enough. Some think a 90 isnt enough. Its not an exact science but you dont want to stunt growth when they are young. What about a smaller member of the botia family? Look up YoYo loaches.
Same goes for the balas. My tank is too small for them. I've to re-home them. A 55g is probably not best either. Read up & build a tank! Not hard.
go with what you want. and see if your lfs will take em back after a year or so. in the end just pick fishes that will look cool and fish that will be healthy in your tank. i personally, made a bad choice by buying balas.
i thin it depends what fish you are keeping. Loaches and some cichlids like to dig so sharp gravel sometimes isnt best. It depends on what you're keeping. Theres lots of good info on the net to read.

Even in a giant tank, Bala's are such slow growers :(

no. I used pool filter sand. So long as you wash it well first, and go slow putting it in it only tanks an evening or so to settle.

ive always wanted to put sand in my tank, does it take long to settle?, it looks great:)
