  • 哂9氣,正常人有能力有時間有資源學好兩文三語,你講野有口音係因為唔係母語,生活少用,普通人學口音(通常99.99%失敗)係本末倒置

  • 葉太應該係用字 立論好勁果D

  • Sexy Canton accent~

  • I agree that Regina Yip's english is excellent, and that her university teacher said her cantonese accent is not a problem, but I want to tell her teacher that regina's pronounciation sucks!!

  • @stonpio

    siusir其中一個video"英文由F字學起:Which 和 Witch 讀音有分別嗎?"有提及過你所講既問題.你可以睇睇

  • @michlam999 Thanks for letting me know ^^

  • i think having accent is not a problems as long as its regarded as "correct" by most of the native english speakers and they do understand you....so that they dont tease you too much when u speak....

Regina Yip sounds really weird ..and she is pretty..........ugly , btw.

  • Great video.

  • lol way better accent than ppl in taiwan XD i dont see anything bad about hk english accent XD

  • Very good channel. It can really show the common problems that others have. If people dont go aboard, they may hardly find any sources to improve their accent!

  • This video is awesome. I am a Hong Konger living Canada and I still learned a lot from this video. (The huge Chinese community in Vancouver decreases the willingness of the Chinese here to learn better English)

I understand this video teaches a British accent more than a Canadian/American accent, but is still help a lot for getting rid of a Cantonese accent.

  • oh my god!!!!you are a pseud shit !!!!

  • i used to think pronunciation is important but being able to communicate is the the most important thing. Most people speak more than 3 languages. Its not possible nor it is necessary to perfect accent in every language you know.

  • I remember my English teacher back then had us erase "the" and replace with "D" after a vowel, haha.

  • Anyway, I think the most undesirable thing in HK accent is its tonality, not the pronunciation of a single word, so please don't stress on the pronunciation of individual words too much.

  • As Hong Kong has been a British colony for more than a hundred years, some pronunciations might be influenced by British people who are not originated from London, Oxford or Cambridge, which make HK accent sound different from three of these cities. Thus I think the producer should do more research on different English accent in UK, US and other English speaking countries, so as to let the viewers receive correct messages from his video.

  • I hope all of you can pay attention to the following:

    1. Regina Ip did not pronunce the words "well" and "will" wrongly, as dark l can be replaced by w sound since 19th century in southern England.

    2. "S sound" can still be pronunced in between vowels or between vowel and voiced consonant, this is according to the classical English pronunciation. We should bear in mind that HK English is strongly influenced by classical English and that's the reason why the pronunciation of letter Z is different

  • Problem is that HK is seriously lacking qualified English teachers. My family and I moved to Canada 30 years ago, when I was only 11 at the time. I still remember that I got teased and laughed at by other kids because of my HK english. My teachers in HK taught me that f, v, ph, and th are pronounced exactly the same! Also s = z, and z = "2 sed", and sh is pronounced "s" (like shoe pronounced "sue"). It is embarrassing even thinking about it...

  • what's the difference between f and ph?

  • yr teacher is really..um...she sucks

  • lol @ how you pronouced collaboration

  • Try my breast~

  • 你應該將你覺得人地講得唔好嘅地方,甚至全段演譯一次,睇下又係咪好過人地.比大家評吓.唔係你就全無說服力.其實應該由一個懂廣東話嘅英國人嚟批評.你未夠資格.

  • Hi siu82english: If anything, I think your spoken English is very Hong Kong style with heavy cantonese accents. Honestly I don't think you are qualified to teach spoken English.

  • [回應 wochiu 等人]

    如果單從知識角度來看﹐這些錄像多少起到一些教學作用﹔很可惜的是﹐原作人抱著教導別人糾正發音陋習時﹐自身卻犯上說中文偏要夾雜一堆不必要的英語。倘若指控別人說英語帶有粵音是一種陋習﹐難道他說著母語(中文)卻要混上一堆不必要的英語便不是陋習﹖正所謂﹕其身不正﹐又何以正人﹖﹗

  • thanks for sharing this..... Audrey's eng. speaking surprised me... dsnt sound like chinese....

by the way, pronunciation is important... however If hk people have great pronunciation, but crappy grammar, whats the point? plus, they have neither now.... u should find examples of ppl who doesnt know grammar and talk about that.. which would be better...

  • damn use english if you're gonna sound like a retard in chinese

  • Unless you are from the international school, 90% of our Chinese English teachers speak English with Chinese accent. The most important thing is make sure people understand what you are trying to say. The tips is to speak English slowly and loudly. Remember to pronoun every consonants in each word. Do not afraid your English is not good enough, practice made prefect.

  • funny

  • 讲广东话的人很难发R音的,讲国语的人很易发好英文音。

    我好enjoy(动词)也是非常错的讲法,但很多人都讲也被其他人受落。

  • Hey, I agreed that they have a hk accent when they speak English. But, you should mentioned that you are teaching them how to speak the British accent. Cuz, that's not how we speak in Canada or US. (Eg.) pro-fessor .. Canada and US use the full tone instead of the half tone that you indicated. But, it's a different story in UK as we found that they tend to use higher tones more often.

  • Asshole shut the fxxk up if u do not understand wt he reli want to say. u juz get stuff with the rubbish media, use ur brain tht ur parents gave u or otherwise they'll be sad!

  • I agree... that Chip Tsao must shut up his fucking mouth...why? he forgot that he came in mainland China? The place where the cheap lady prostitute of 10 DHS

and UAE came from? Fuck You Chip Tsao.

  • shut up!are u really know the situation in China?are u clever than Mao Zhedong?

U just stand aside and say some useless words.

  • He is sophisticated.

  • r u an english teacher or somthing?

  • 佢幾時咁講?

  • 係:「狂猫舌戦抽水十九才子」。

  • learning to speak english that way is so annoying. I just learn it by living in the states. I don't think even locals know this stuff.

  • 好勁...如果我d 英文同你同一level就好嚕...

  • 同邊個先?

  • I didn't know that the 's' in ... problems between.... is pronounced as a 'z'. Good to know that.

  • My opinion is Siu Sir just wanted us avoided these problems but not laugh at someone. Thus, I wonder if it was necessary for sb here to argue with some needless issues. Thx.

  • Good analysis. I lived in US for 10 years and still, I don't notice things that you brought up.

  • most people won't unless you learn English in a languege institute. The way you learned your English is probably from mimicking instead of studying. Just like babies learn speaking. Regular school doesn't teach voice and diction.

  • i think the problem is in HK, there is not voice and diction course for the students. It's important to learn to how to pronounce correctly and precisely if english is the native language. i took that course in college it's been very helpful.

  • jimfee42, I totally agree with you. I studied in HK till F.5 and came to the US. My teacher never taught me how to read the symbols in the dictionary(my school was a famous school in Kowloon Tong). I have to learn English from watching TV. I still can't really tell the difference when he says 'won't' or 's' vs 'z'. But his English is definitely good. Now I need to learn from him how NOT to speak so 'flat'. Great video, Thanks.

  • @jimfee42 I dont see the need in learning how to speak like a native english. Be confident in yourself! It is the content of your speech counts, not the accent!

    廣東音又如何!? 香港人學accent 唔係俾鬼聽﹐係講俾你隔離有廣東音既朋友聽.... 未見過有其他國家既人俾香港人更介意d音似唔似。

  • @gordonleung226 I don't know where you are living now. I guess you haven't had the experience of being treated differently in the US because of the language barrier. I came to New York when I was 14. I was lucky enough to learn to speak English fluently with only little accent. When I didn't speak perfect english, I had bad experience with Cops, government workers and other people. The fact is if you don't speak perfect English, your chance to move up your ladder in your career is small.

  • @jimfee42

    accidently deleted....

really? i don't know how it is like in your country but it won't affect a lot in Hong Kong. You can search some video for our chief execution. He also speaks canton-accent english.

I agree with gordonleung226 because I think the canton-accent represents our culture. Our HYBRID language with weird english and putonghua. cantonese as well...

Denying our accent is like denying the hong kong unique culture in my view

  • @jimfee42 We should pay attention to grammar as well.

  • 學校唔教?

    係人講你就,醒你又唔問咋掛

    唔好賴啦

  • I find this clip quite educational. I won't feel offended if someone correct my English this way.

  • I totally agree with you~

I think some bitchy people are just jealous about that~@@

Or maybe he doesen't even know how to speak English,Thats why he use to criticize other people who are smart and has talent. These are the people I really look up to...

    Just socks....

  • First,It's not bitch, it's bitchy~

I think you really have to spend more time to correct your grammer...

Secondly,I didn't really point out your name...I'm totally confused about your big reaction~^^

  • Get over it bitch!!!

siu sir was just using it as an example to teach us English.

You think your English is better than other's, huh?

    Look at your preposition usage!!!!

shut the hell up, for everyone's sake!!

The more you speak, the more the laughing stock you are like

  • you have an eye for detail

    Good

  • WHO ENGHLISH BEST???????

  • 1.你真係有屎不識泰山,佢係蕭sir.

2.He can speak completely pure english.

    唔信試下睇佢upload d video,youtube影片獎的

  • He's just taking a real person on TV to be an example in order to increase the effectiveness in teaching and also our learning process...

So if u're not helping here, please not simply criticize before u understand the entire thing...Thank you...

  • Please try to appreciate what others post online...and this is obviously an education based vid clip...Just in case u didnt notice it, just check the rest of the vids he posted in youtube... Thank you...

  • Dear Mimoka22,

Would you please let me know more about this 蕭sir? Do you know where to attend his lessons like those in youtube?

    Thanks a lot!

  • Thanks, vry good

  • i like Audrey's

  • audrey eu's is the best

  • 勁人! 佩服佩服

  • Regina Ip tends to abuse the word "the." Sometimes she uses "the" inappropriately.

    1. It should be: "whether from the government or from the private sector."

    2. It should be: "between new appointees and civil servants."

She also tends to use the word "will" too often when in fact she should have used "is" or "may".

    E.g.

    1. It should be: "Initially, there may be teething problems"

    2. It should be: "It isn't easy to find the right talent"

I wonder how she was able to get a PhD!????

  • very interesting interpretation~

  • Good video with comment on some political guys, keep on friend!

    Vincent Copperfield

  • Excellent work! But can you repeat the correct pronunciation more and slowly?

  • Please make it simple

  • It show on de TV.

  • i have a phonetic class this semester and its kinda boring but i found your teaching is very interesting. i even think of showing my professor your videos too bad she doesnt understand cantonese. on..i am studying in Taipei but i understand cantonese. Once again, thank you very much ^_^
