a wonderful song by a beautiful lady as for 911insideio8 clen the wax out of your ear,s. This song is a story about a lady trying to tell another not to make the same mistake she made. And the price she willl pay if she does.
A lovely performance, shame she changed the words a bit. :) I love several different versions of this, Nancy Wilson, Randy Crawford (which seems kinda rare) and of course Charlene. Thanks for sharing this!
imagine this song as a reminder and a discovery of one's self as a full woman..she made mistakes , she went to discover the secrets of the world and realized she did not even discovered herself.. she begins the renewal..play the song again and imagine also that this is a very beautiful woman who left her loved one to go out and discover what's in store for her in the world.
I don't think she looks like a drag queen. She looks more like a very young classy Dionne Warwick a bit here. Though Marilyn was much beautiful, though. It's the 80s, remember. Men and women worn makeup back then, even in television shows.
Marilyn did a great job as always but she looked miserable - like she couldn't wait to be done with that ridiculous song. Having Marilyn sing that song is like asking Leontyne Price to sing Row Row Row Your Boat.
I agree, I think the song is ridiculous, and Charlene's 1980s version is just comical. I wonder what Marilyn was thinking singing this song, because she doesn't look like she admires it. At least her voice sounds lovely, as usual.
Marilyn McCoo has an excellent voice, but I do agree, this was not a very good 80s song at all. Though you have to feel some sympathy for Scott Baio...poor dude look like a lost puppy when he announced the song at 00:05- 00:07. He was possibly wondering himself why that song was picked, too. It was not McCoo only, but also Scott as well. Noticed how his eyes looked perplexed a bit and then went back to normal. Just a little hint right there.
I think Marilyn was singing it because the week before, this song was #5 on the countdown (and here's it's #4) and Charlene was on the week prior singing it. They probably didn't want to repeat the live singers.
actually I like the Mary MacGregor version better, much more upbeat. But yeah, the Charlene version is definitely one of those you don't wanna hear all the time. I could deal with Marilyn's cover all right though
Nothing with Marilyn at all. She has a terrific voice. You know, given the amount of Youtube clips on Scott Baio, I am surprised no one posted his first two albums off any song there was. Because he is reaching over 400 clips already, among scattered old clips or never before seen clips. Gotta love Youtube, though. They show you things you never thought you'll see again. LOL
the only words changed in the song was preacher man to righteous man..and i personally like it better...

I used to watch Solid Gold just to see her sing. Once she left I never watched it again. The rating went down big time when Rick Dees took over.

Oh this is beyond terrible! It's not totally McCoo's fault, the song just totally stinks!

Marilyn Mc Coo, & Nancy WIlson, put the Soul in this song, but Charlene was also amazing with her sweet tender voice

Pause at 00:04-00:08. Scott has a band-aid on his finger.

Nice 80s leather jacket, Scott! I use to have one just like that, though.

Marilyn looks beautiful-but this is one dreadful song. One of the worst things ever written.
