The reason for the salt is to set the color. Just like you would do to a pair of jeans to keep it from fading (if that's what your wanted).
They mentioned not to put it around the agitator (center of the washer).
Personally, I would have taken it in a sturdy plastic bag to the laundromat instead of turning my washer/dryer pink. I wouldn't want my next load of whites turning pink from any residue.
.
It would also be helpful to post the recipe/directions here instead of repeating the video.
Very bad idea to put rope in that kind of washing machine without putting it first in a laundry bag. It could potentially wrap around the center thing and break your washer...
This is great, thanks boys. But what does the salt do thou? Does in stop the dye solution from soaking in more? I didn't see any thing mentioned about the salt on the RIT website. Going to try this on some old rope and see how it turns out.
You can also use the Rit liquid dye. For best results, always follow the directions on the package! Sadly, Lehigh has changed their rope manufacturing process. Seems like their nylon is mostly polyester now, so it doesn't hold dye well. :-( Your sesult may vary.
hi mate great video, can you do the same to polyester rope? cheers
