Fanfiction is a mixed bag, that's for sure. Sift through the dreck and you can find some excellent stories. The largest fandoms are, of course, attract more writers and therefore, more badfics.
My genre, Hannibal, is much smaller, so it's easy to find the better stories there.
Check the C-2 communities in your genres for the best offerings.
For what it is worth, I agree with much you've said. My own fanfic has been practice for writing fiction, starting with "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (my "Never the Twain?" was about an alternate history where Tara is a vampire).
I've actually met a professional writer for "BTVS" as well as "Battlestar: Galactica" and others who loves fanfic and encourages it.
Hey how do write new chapters i know how 2 add them but where do u actullay write them do u have to write them on ur own compter and upload them how? where do u actullay write he chapters?
you write them at microsoft word or wahtever you type on... it'll take a long time to explain, and I only have 500 characters.
After you write whatever you have, you go to the site, create a profile and then go to stories and hit 'new stories' then you fill out eberything you want. After that, your story is sumbitted and added to the archive.
there's really more than that, ask someone else if you need more help.I have seventeen stories now :).
The only thing i dont get is where do u write ur chapter's?? can u just really quick go step by step on how u would make a new chapter PLEASE? just tell me how would you make a new chapter here can u send me a message tht way u can write more? PLEASe just go 1st u would i just need 2 know how u would start writing a new cahpter PLEASE just send me message !!!!!!!!!!!
@johnnyzelda You upload your story to the Doc Manager, then you go to Manage Stories and click Content/Chapters and you should be able to figure it out from there. :)
OMG. You are so right in so many things you've said. there really is such a wonderful feeling with getting good reviews, and also when you look at how you're writing has improved. I love that! I really think that there is so many pro's to fanfiction if it is your thing.
I have to agree. It's so hard to find good fanfiction. I do love writing it though. I just love to be able to delve into my favorite tv shows, and make up stories that I wish to see with them. The reviews are always great too. - Kirstin
And as for getting feedback... well I have about 8 or so people reading my novel right now so I guess I don't lack the review thing. And getting e-mails from MidnightMaraly telling me to send her more chapters is really a great motivator.
You're lucky. I have one and she's running five chapters behind and never gives feedback. It's not too good since I could really do with a second opinion and I'm too paraniod to go out of my circle of friends at home.
As for getting ideas when I'm writing, I wouldn't say they were my best, but they're the ones that make everything fit together. I get my best when I'm out with my mp3 player just walking.
But I know that fanfiction works for Kirstin. I think I am just one of those odd people. I know what you mean about daydreaming about plots... but that does help for creating the story. But sometimes I get the best ideas as I am actually writing. Do you find that too?
I know what you mean about characters crossing over. I have that problem with my Clodin and Malie all the bloody time. And then sometimes with Peter as well, but Peter is actually way more mature (by apperance) so it is mostly easier. However I tend to stay away from writing fanfiction. I used to want to do it years ago when I was just beginning my novel series but I could never get anywhere with the stories.

I adore fanfiction! I have read a lot and written a lot. Mainly of Buffy, Harry, Dragonfly and Stargate. Oh and a little bit of Heroes.
