Yea... as long as it isnt solid state drive almost every HD can be pulled and have the data taken off... I guess they are proud of the fact that it wasnt a newer SSD and a slow ass 5400rpm HD which we call at our company large paper weights with a "open" option to get some pretty powerful magnets and magnet coils for our kids wind generators. You go thinkpad!
Shut it off IMMEDIATELY, pull out the power chord & the battery FAST. This must be done within seconds otherwise the water will seep in & short out the circuits.
Once the laptop is off, place it in a warm dry place like next to a window so the sun can evaporate the water. Let it dry for a few days. Never turn it on until 100% of the water is gone. If u can, open it up & dry it out.
Once it's dry, turn it on & give it a try. Hopefully it works.. good luck! :)
Fresh water is easily survived, my trusty T60 got a cup of coffee (with sugar) knocked over it, instant black screen and lights out. Whipped the network cable and powerlead out, battery off, then literally washed it out under the tap... had whole laptop under water (sugar will destroy the PCB if left in). Same laptop is now happily running Windows 7 after a good drying out.
lol it does not still work but the data is stored on the hard drive whoch would be retrievable from any laptop and still work as long as its not dented

@afg96 IBM sold "thinkpad" as well as all PC manufacturing rights to Lenovo about 3 years ago as far as i know and im sure that IBM isnt the only company that makes RFID tags ie. "the mark" as many call them.
@afg96 but this laptop hard disks are sealed so that water cannot go in so they just remove the hard disk cover and got the platter (in thinkpads you have platters only one) the jut put into a new hardisk
@afg96 You know, Apple users agree on letting Apple use information about what the user does with the computer and gives them the right to sell it to third parties. So actually, Apple cannot be trusted. Just view their EULA next time you install programs from Apple.
@Anima87 Thanks bro for you concern. But you should know what IBM does and the reason why I don't like them. First thing, IBM also known as International Business Machines do the same thing! Second they made veri chip that basically spy on you, and traces you down. IBM played a major role during WWII and yes I said WWII helping nazis. So now you tell me how is bad.

thats correct. harddisks are waterproof. and in most cases even the electronic outside do not necessary take damage when in water. only if there is power to that PCB somewhere. a harddisk from a computer laid in water for 12 hours or more can be easily restored just replace the pcb and thats it.
What is so special about taking out the HD and getting all the files off it? Back then in 2004 it was probably a IDE drive but you can still get a USB converter..
Oh that is bull shit

people need to learn more about computers...
ALL harddrives are water sealed becuase they wont work if theres water and dirt..
so of course it would be recoveralbe

thats correct. harddisks are waterproof. and in most cases even the electronic outside do not necessary take damage when in water. only if there is power to that PCB somewhere. a harddisk from a computer laid in water for 12 hours or more can be easily restored just replace the pcb and thats it.

What is so special about taking out the HD and getting all the files off it? Back then in 2004 it was probably a IDE drive but you can still get a USB converter..

No, they have a small vent on them. There's also the external components that could be damaged.
