last night, I went to sleep... thinking: I have to "see" this video LOUD tomorrow. I didn't find the headphones and, again, it's quite late [night YT]. hh. I liked a lot how the light|sun looked like a heart at times, the starry ground at 1:51 [!!]. always love how you edit, plus slippereal's music is too great.
I read what you wrote and I believe that your text gives, somehow, more force to the video. also, you dance beautifully; movements at night announcing the Sun; I kept thinking about a rain dance. :) good wishes for your Thursday. long smiles.
I think the whole piece works. In a sense it is like a eye that views, a witness POV. It starts off with an oval shape. The dancer moves away & towards. 2 dancers forming eyes in the dark. In a sense it allows us entry inside & outside the creative space of the dancer!
hey I like this clip. Special this scenes with the mirrored trees and this glow FX.
It´s a very short clip or the time goes faster by watching the clip... so i`t seems to be a good sign... :)
But wehn you film it again... maybe an Idea ... just dance from the night to the sunrise in fast motion.. and cut it wavy to he rythm ...so ok... here in Hamburg you have no chance for a sunrise... but you`ve got it maybe ;)
Dancing is an interesting form of communication. It is nondiscursive, but seems to communicate so much. Lovely video. and of course, Mikedelic is cool.
My gosh, woman! The goosebumps haven't subsided yet. *tries to shake 'em off* Hm.... Okay. There's your vision.....and then, there's what you've shown us. I wouldn't....COULDN'T want this to be anything, but what it IS. An editing GEM. Also....your dancing is uniquely, YOU. I think I could pick yours, out of a hundred dancing silhouettes. I don't think I've ever produced a piece that was exactly what I'd hoped for. Point is, you made it. And, here it is. Marvelously lighting the night. 5* Faved
I sure wish I could rate Sunrise more than once. This is so moving. To be perfectly honest with you, it was really like a teaser for me. I know you are finished with it, so I will tell you that it was worth both of your efforts. It truly was! I will also leave this coment for Mr. Mike.
Caren, FIrst of all, your sidebar explanation is tremendously generous of you to share. Thank you for being so true to yourself and to that inner you that you fight with. You make me so curious and I love this about you. Now I plan on watching and will be back. I want to see what you're being so critical about. It's amazing that we can hold so much beauty, creativity, love and radiance, yet still be hard on our individual piecs of ourselves.
Wow! I love the high contrast stuff! It's so beautiful! Great tune from Mike too. It looks like your having fun with those effects. I really liked the way the grass began to glow as you walked across. Great job and very interesting side bar info.Your a great dancer!!!
hello caren,,,, i like the music, it carried me into and around the video, there is definetly a twilight zone vs. "modern ' dance feel, the light and dark, shadow,,,, love it,,, thats how i paint, wonderfull partnership, reallllllllly llove the special effect around 1:50 -2:00 minute area, super cool,,, dancer,,,, you love to dance, you make that clear, you dance how you feel, honest,,, yes? comparisons, inner critique, self doubt,,,tell those voices no!! keep on trusting yourself, peace:-)
I love the comment about your big ideas getting in the way (or something like that). Yes! And it's not even about going for something beyond ourselves. It's the creative persons (semi) ultimate trap- this sense that I, you, (anyone) are going to do something and it's going to be so great! so effing cool! Beware giant self-imposed expectations. Only you know what it "lacks". The rest of us get to watch & be wowed. Do it, & "it" will speak for itself.
Well put ejp3art. I am glad I included my super lengthy description about my concerns (because I think everyone can relate) but I don't think I will do that again. I will either put it out without disclaimer or or I will keep it to myself. As you say, only I know what is lacking. Thanks for the great comment. :)
Sometimes artists are absurdly honest- see, here's where the color bled, here's where the tape tore the paper, this area's too dark, one eye dips below the other...
Ah. I thought it was brilliant, but now I see the mistakes, it actually kind of sucks.
Took me ages to learn to shut up about the faults. I take my hint from the Japanese. Something w/ a fault in it is more interesting than a perfect thing. :)
Very well done, and so interesting on many levels! You are a really great editor! I wish I had less hobbies sometimes... I really need to make a new video... I'm really glad you shared this! No more self criticism! Just enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!!! :o)
I especially liked when you went high contrast so that it was only your white figure on a field of black, but I also really liked the luminosity between 1:03 & 1:28.
Dammit, woman, when are you going to dance in front of a green screen?
and fortunately my girlfriend, who often resembles the moon in that she glows softly some nights, is fortunately made more happy than jealous than this kind of thing lol
You always come up with an interesting angle and take on things Caren. I enjoyed watching though you claim this doesn't have your full endorsement. None the less it has creativity and I also like the colab with Mike! Well worth the watch..
I thought the moves were extremely fluid and well expressed. Not sure how it could be better. It's like here's a million dollars, but I want more. Let's be reasonable. :o) I'd honestly like to see more in this direction.
you know, i really believe that things always happen at the right time, even when the reason is a mystery to ourselves. i'm sure there's a reason why you felt compelled to release this when you did!
as for me, it's just so inspiring...as you always seem to be, and your dancing in combination iwth slip's song is just dark and awesome (i mean that in the biblical sense of the word, not the bill and ted's sense)
I'm glad you decided to share this video. To my untrained eye it looks flawless. But I understand totally what you are saying in the description.
What I find confusing is that a person of your level of conscientiousness hasn't figured out that "perfection" is unobtainable (in my humble opinion). For every edit, special effect, graphic, etc, there were countless other ways you could have gone. Unfortunately you can't include them all in one video.
ex fuggin squisite eaglecrow owl and slippe real. caren you wish you was what? even beautifuller, magicker, even more astonishingly gifted as a mover & shaker of the elements of dance and cinema? ahhh raspberries. the wonder of slippereal's ear and your eye. the mystery of light and shadow, a woman's shape, the human voice. body & souls. i tell you true, i found this flawless. a frikkin masterpiece. oh you guys.
sheesh, your vids provide the endorphin analgesic that is missing in my dull, small existence., how quaint, how efficient, i see the audio equation and i have been negligent.. thank you for the fine video,, j in k
Thanks for the art Caren! We all dig the bohemian egalecrwowl with her dance in place of words. Mystery instead of rhyme and abstractions in place of detail.
I'm interested reading your process that you put music over movement instead of dancing to the music? I find this odd as a dancer (Bellydance), it seems back to front!??
Yay!more from Caren:)i don't see why you had any hesitations,it's definetnly smth a bit different from what you usually do but i believe that it fulfils its purpose, which is to stun us all:)there were a few weak moments but as an impression it wins over, the ending really made me think i was dreaming!and the music was wonderfull, you're so lucky to have such a friend as Mike:Di only hope that i see more from you soon!take care and don't be very busy with stuff less important than your art;)
well, to me this is awesome, so I'm not sure why you seem so trepidatious in the description. Two great tastes that taste great together: eaglecrowowl and slippereal. Welcome back, Caren. One day we will start a band.
Lovely as ALWAYS Caren. I really like the motto about the perfect and the good... Being a perfectionist sometimes means you never get ANYTHING DONE!!! So glad you DID post this up.
There's a lonely tree up on a lonely hill in a nearby park where I live, your dancing makes me want to go up there and dance with the tree until the sun goes down.
Also interesting to read about the creative process, too often I get overwhelmed with ideas and end up doing nothing.
You wish, you wish , you wish... you were right to adopt this new motto "don't let perfection be the enemy of the good" and so let us see your video and also share your creative process. The last part is also my favourite ; )
