Texas/New Mexico recipe.. for some reason not that many people know of it! I mean, down here in San Antonio, it's a tradition in the same way Big Red soda is a tradition here (Big Red Soda is basically a red cream soda).
I first heard about Frito pie in Jane and Michael Stern's book, "Roadfood". I always understood that it was first made and sold in New Mexico. Either way, it's good stuff.
i think it resembles an upside down meat pie, with the filling on top of the crust, thats the only connection i can make. great stuff keep it up, and i hope you win the that award.
We don't really do anything with the youtube versions of our videos since many of our longer episodes are actually missing from here, because of youtube's 10 min limit. The non-youtube versions of the videos on our actual foodtease website, get promoted a little more: twitter, feeds, email, etc... so they get more views than the ones here.
That look great. All the concession stands at any kid sporting event sell walking tacos. A little bag of Fritos with some sauce and cheese dumped in. I would like to make yours into a casserole maybe the Fritos would get soggy..........lol . I think I will stick to your recipe.
