  • its sad really that the odds are so stacked against us performers. i go through videos EVERY day probably over 200 a week of covers etc from aspiring performers and everyone sais in the comments "on your way to broadway" ETC when unfortunately most of them wont. take this girl for instance she is SOOO talented and she has very little chance of making it (not because of her lack of talent) but because of how far fetched this gusiness is i really wish there were more career options 4 performers :/

  • Your amazing!!!

  • Just saw you in Les Mis-even in ensemble, I could pick you out from this video. Wonderful job!

  • Someones on her way to Brodway :)

  • another amazing performance natalie :]

  • Beautiful voice!

  • A song sang out of context. Especially with one with so many different motivations. is so difficult to act. and to get right.

  • ha! did you notice that in the song it rymes you with you! in the degreenafy bit?

  • Delightful!

  • WHAT A VOICE! wow.

  • Well for all of you claiming she has no acting skills, she PLAYED elphaba on broadway as an understudy! She made it! The directors of the show must of thought she was elphie enough for them ;)

  • @Smartpplz161 Natalie hasn't understudied the role of Elphaba on Broadway. She was understudy on the 2nd national tour when it opened but left a month later. She didn't even go on as Elphaba.

  • If she became more "elphie-like" rather than disney pop, she'd be perfect for the role of Elphaba. Like MageSutek said, acting can be taught.

  • you're really good :) Your pianist is Awful O.o

  • well there is a elphaba of the futureee

  • People can bitch about the acting until the cows come home; acting can be taught. With a voice like that, any acting is going to be eclipsed anyway. You cannot teach a voice to belt out notes like that. That voice is something else. Wow is really all I can say.

  • those criticizing her acting, keep in mind that this performance isn't in the context of the show. I'm sure when she was in the show in Chicago then she acted a lot more.

  • I have just read a couple of the comments here and I wonder why all of you think her acting is so bad. She acts/gestures exactly like a high school girl/college fresher who gets a little over-excited and carried away. Which, by the way, is exactly the situation where this song comes in the show. So what's the big deal? The Wizard and I is not supposed to look like Defying Gravity.

  • Okay, general note: she IS a goddess.

  • Guys shes a singer.. She's not trying to be an actress so stop criticizing her acting.

  • @WickedMusicalBuffalo yes, but she wants to do musicals, and musicals need both voice and acting (which shes not good at!) So thats why we are criticizing! We want her to suceed, but she cant act, so we are upset!

  • @LMBlankenhorn How do you know she can't act? Have you ever actually seen her in a musical or play? She's obviously not going to fully perform the song including the acting when she's standing at a microphone i na concert like situation. Plus she can't be that bad of an actress because she we ensemble and Elphaba understudy on the national tour.

  • @asswhole239 but thats all she ever gets! shes always understudy, while in the ensemble! she has a BEAUTIFUL voice, and she was MUCH better than Anne Brummel when i saw the national tour, so why isnt she elphaba yet? I heard that she is currently on tour with Les Miserables as an u/s for Fantene (idk if thats true or not) and i saw that show, and the Fantene couldnt sing (well she could, but it was really strainy and not that good...)! She would be lead, if only she could actually act!

  • great voice. terrible actress. that's what's gonna hold her back from getting parts!

  • Comment removed

  • wow!

  • omg. chills. all over me. you are amazing. it would be an honor to just shake your hand someday. jeez you have such a great voice!

  • U R AMAZING with high notes!!! u r very good:) and talented!

  • I. Adore. Her.

    Like loads.

  • the acting is underwhelming because she's using a mic on a stand and isn't able to move much. frankly it's amazing she's doing as much as she is, considering

  • The wizard disliked this.

  • Awesome vocals!

  • WHERE'S THE GREEN SKIN.

  • @DanimalLawlz

    ha!

  • why aren't you on brodway?

  • american idol i love you but you really shouldnt've let this girl go so early. see what happened? :D.

  • @bieberboy316

i thought she was great on american idol too.

  • @TheDbhardy- well she was but didn't make it past hollywood week

  • oh my god you should be on brodway!

  • @TheDbhardy she is..... lol

  • @GlennDeVar

    that's a relief!

  • Amazing! Love your voice!

  • awesome!!

  • Elphaba, disney princess version

  • what a fantastic voice!

  • great voice A*

  • i love her voice! she gives me chills

  • i think she is really good but her belt isnt amazing

  • @rachel950

I think she's mixing for most of the end

  • @rachel950 I couldn't disagree more. I think her belt is outstanding!

  • its really goood but i dont think her beat is amazing

  • i've had this on repeat all afternoon :-)

  • I really think her voice fits the traditional Elphaba. It's super clean and controlled, but I feel like she was rushing a bit for most of it, and then when she finally let herself get into it, I don't know. The rhythm just messed with me a bit, and not in a good way. But well done nonetheless. That's the only fault I have with it! :) Nice clean tone!! yay you!

  • @2muchchemistry , Idina IS a hollywood star .

  • I think she acted that song great.... MAYBE ITS BECAUSE SHE ISNT GREEN :P

  • wooow were you on broadway ???

  • wow. truly amazing.

  • She isn't a slave to following the music and notes which is great and the dramatic elements are good.. but maybe a bit TOO much.

  • I would pay good money to see that in the theater, what are the Wicked casting people thinking passing up on this serious talent! with a little time and practice I could see her being one of my top Elphaba's!

  • someone's finger sliped!! HELLO!!? THE LIKE BUTTON IS ONN THE LEFT!!! Understand?? IT'S THE THUMBS UP!!!

  • SHE sings this song, the song doesn't sing her! that's such an amazing thing to have!

    i hope that made sense.

also i like her orange dress.

  • @nikegirl10552468 I get bored when I hear people sing a song the same way every time...especially when they are trying to sing it exactly like someone else who's famous... I would prefer to hear it made into a personal expression of real emotions, which is exactly what natalie does

  • @nikegirl10552468 Do you think Shoshana, Eden, or Idina ruined the song/show by changing the notes, then?

  • her acting is ALWAYS underwhelming, it's really just her voice that's unreal

  • Natalie is phenomenal but when she said "no" at 1:00 and 1:03 I died laughing.

  • ....apparently there are now 8 wonders of the world.

  • this is actually my favorite version of this song live

    she's AMAZING

  • oh. my. god. i can't even HANDLE how incredible she is. good lord.

  • Wow this was great.

  • WOW. You are AMAZING.

  • You. Are. Phenomenal.

    UGH I WANT YOUR VOICEEEEE!!!

  • Um wow.... vocal pyrotechnics much? I LOVE IT!

  • you are amazing! ABSOLOUTLY amazing!

  • OMG... you killed it. That's street talk... for you touched my heart as much as Idina does.

  • Why isn't this girl famous??!!!

  • @wbombers92 Oh my gosh, she totally should be by now

  • as far as the movie idina is the only one good enough no other actress can do it

  • fantastic.

  • I love your version of this song. I listen to it daily. Really. :)

  • You're AWESOME!

    Bravissima!

    Ciao from Rome, Italy! ;o)

  • flawless voice<3

  • what the hell is the pianist doing?

  • You really should be on broadway or west end!!!!

  • what an awesome voice - i can't believe i haven't heard of her before. she's terrific!

  • Someone please tell me if Natalie ever played Elpheba!!!!

  • @circuitmedic she was the understudy on the national tour. So she probably has :)

  • I asked her on facebook if she ever got to play elphie, sadly she never had the chance to go on. She said that in the future she would love to play her some day. Hopefully that time will come.

  • the thing i loved most about this, is the fact that the last "iiii" is almost foreshadowing of the "ahh" in defying gravity. brilliant choice.

  • Idk. Dont get me wrong I love natalie weiss but i feel like her acting here is just a little underwhelming considering the song. She has an amazing voice just wish she had gotten into it a little more

  • She was Elphaba in a national tour!

  • @LeighAmanda92 she was?

  • yepp! She was originally the understudy, but the Elphaba couldn't do it ( i think she got hurt or someting) so NAtalie took over!

  • funn :))

  • I would have killed to see that.

  • I don't know that she ever got to perform the role of Elphaba though. She was the understudy for a short time, but I think Marice Dodd (the lead) and Carrie Manolakos did all of the Elphaba performances when Natalie was there.

  • I really like this! She is really talented!

  • she looks like idina menzel with that haircut and sounds just as good

  • better than just as good :) just sayin.

  • shes so amazing. so many people are aying random stuff on her other vids comparing her to other people....all i know is that she is one of the best singers like in the natural world. why cant we just praise her for her talent? she deserves that. i mean have u heard her?

  • you really match how others sing. not just in your improvs. its not a bad thing. i do it too.....jsut hard to develop my own sound when i can sound like anyone. ya know? but still....i do enjoy everything you have on here. finally something good coming out of penn state

  • i was thinking the same thing. They need a big name to attract past fans and one people might be somewhat familiar with. I think honestly she has the best range. She doesn't falter with notes and she's young and will be popular someday but now... I don't know if it's enough. I wish It'd be her.

    I hope she remains humble.

  • And I'm sorry, Lea Michele is way too full of herself. I hope they don't pick her no matter how well she sings.

  • what makes you think she's full of herself?

  • Just my impression of her from everything I've seen her in. Mainly her interviews. I was in love with her because I think she has a perfect voice but she seems to flaunt it too much. That's an automatic turnoff. I mean, I guess it comes with success and being great but it's a bit annoying ... maybe she's different in person, who knows.

  • Yeah, I suppose I see where you're coming from. I just think she looks confident, which is good.

  • Natalie...you have the voice of an angel.

  • Wow that was fantastic! Although I, too prefer Shoshana Bean to all others

  • Natalie, you are amazing. Totally my new straight wife.

  • if anyone idina should get cast as elphaba ... i dnt think she is the best but the role stephen s wrote was based around her voice and she is the original

  • Nice original blocking you were using there.

Stephanie J. Block is the best Elphaba IMO. She never tried too hard with the riffing (same with Julia Murney) and she brought such human characteristics to the role and acted it beautifully.

Fabulous job, vocally, that is. I also LOVE hearing Alyssa Fox sing (and act) this song.

  • i want to see her in wicked

  • why cant they all sing like her

  • Amazing!!!!!!!!

  • Kerry Ellis is the BEST ELPHABA EVER!!! although i do LOVE Natalie Weiss and Shohanna Bean and of course Idina Menzel

  • omg i love it

  • Natalie Weiss should be cast as principal Elphaba in one of the major productions....she will not get cast in the movie...nor will Shoahana, Eden, Idina etc. They will cast a Hollywood star in the role.

  • disappointing but true.

they will want someone with a big box office name to draw in people. IMO Lea Michele could do justice to the part, and shes better known now from Glee. I think most of the past Elphabas might be considered "too old" even if they really aren't.

  • @2muchchemistry if they get Anne Hathaway I will not be happy. :-(

  • @2muchchemistry I don't know. Idina was in the Rent movie, and has been in Glee. Broadway stars are usually the ones who make into major musical motion pictures. (=

  • @2muchchemistry

Well being an understudy for Elphaba isn't bad either :)

  • @2muchchemistry A less talented one. But more famous

  • @2muchchemistry They cast all the origional cast members (that were available) for the movie version of RENT. Why not have Idina in the movie Wicked?

  • @2muchchemistry Yeah i bet they will put idina in for the movie

  • @shbulldogs11 idina is a mom now... and krysten is getting up there in age... that would have to be some good makeup

  • @2muchchemistry I actually thnk tht if they putkrsten chenoweth as glinda in the movie then there gunbna put idina in as alphie

  • @2muchchemistry they may not.. they didn't for RENT

  • @2muchchemistry u r so right.she's amazing. I just can't see why she's not a leading lady on b'way,I love her.

and regarding the movie mersion,I unfortunately agree, they'll cast an Hollywood star.

is there any Famous Hollywood actress who can REALLY sing and act the part? IMO there is not.

  • @2muchchemistry They're making a movie?

  • @2muchchemistry

Ummm, Idina is a Hollywood star.

  • @2muchchemistry probably lea michelle : /

  • @sydneyparra96

    probably.

  • OK Natalie is really good and should play Elphaba in the move....buttt if anyone def. deserves that role its Shoshana Bean....because shes the best Elphie ever!!!

  • wow, she's improved so much lately (not that she was ever bad to begin with).incredible!

  • i love your voice so much! i always watch vids. keep going!!

  • girl you need to come back to wicked! esp broadway ;-)

  • natalie should play Elphaba in the movie!

  • just as good as idina menzel!!!

  • Glorious! I love it!!!

  • whos eden?

  • Eden Espinosa! She's a Braodway singer/actress- she's been Elphaba in Wicked!

  • I love how you switched this up by acting some of the words instead of singing all belty like most! Wonderfuly Done! 5/5*

  • WOW omg, can you say broadway??? :O

    youre amazing!!

  • WOW...probably my favorite video of her ever!

  • Comment removed

  • People shouldn't be comparing Natalie to Eden... because Natalie's a LOT better. Eden sounds obnoxious when she sings -- Like she's trying to do a parody of one of those 400 lb soulful black women that belt their faces off at church.

Natalie's voice is natural, beautiful, and better fitting for the part.

  • I personally love Eden, and I haven't watched/listened to very much of Natalie, but I think she is AMAZING in everything I have heard of her. I think they are both beautiful, incredible, amazing singers, but their voices are very different.

  • This song is really lackluster without a band.

  • she looks so much like Eden in this!

    she's fabulous!

  • OH MY GOSH! YOU ROCK!! O_O

  • amazing vocals, as usual.

    beautifully acted!

  • Broadway?

  • WOW amazingg!!!

  • Wow, that was unbelievable!! Gorgeous!!

  • She didn't do Eden's riff on "things I"VE never felt." Oh, well. That voice makes up for it. Astounding how incredible she is.

  • maybe because...she's not Eden??

  • yeah guys stop comparing her to eden, she's natalie, and she's awesome!

  • vocals a 10!!!

  • i think she's a whatever the hell she wants to be, soprano, mezzo, alto, bass. she can do it all.

  • oh wow that was amazing

  • For an alto, you have a beautiful headvoice.

  • she's not an alto actually I would say mezzo.

  • Damn! She has amazing technique!

  • Ever since I saw her on youtube singing I'm a star (which was winter 2007), I've been hooked! She is amazing!

Hoping she gets a lead on broadway!

  • she sure deserves it.

  • Absolutely amazing Natalie!!!!!!!!

  • You are incredible! Please tell me you'll soon be on Broadway staring in something. All the luck to you in your career.

  • l love how she does the steps with putting down the mic stand as if it were the suitcase ...shes knows this performance well..she's really good

  • I love that you are doing the actual blocking!

  • Well damn, Natalie. Get it girl! That was effing amazing. So when are you auditioning for the part? ; )

  • She did! She was in the ensemble and Elphaba cover in the second National Tour. Wish I could've seen it!

  • Yeah, I knew she was in the ensemble. That's pretty cool.

  • I want you to be Elphaba when I go to New York. I don't want to see anyone else. :D

  • Love this song, and you're amazing singing it!!!

    5 Stars

    *****

  • My favorite Wicked song, and this is perfection :) What a loss that the world never got to see you perform in this role :*(

  • I want you to be Elphaba! Your amazing

  • My goodness Natalie! I wish I could be half as talented as you. :)

  • I pretty much love all of Natalie's singing.

  • audition for wicked the movie!!!!!!
