I'm playing Tracy this year in our production of Hairspray, and I'm so happy to find a Tracy that doesn't sound totally squeaky. I understand that is how the character is supposed to come across, but its very refreshing to find a Tracy who sings with a form of a mature voice. Even if some say she yells, I would rather listen to her than someone who doesn't have the mature vocals.

The problem with Hairspray is though, they have to lay off Tracy's after a shorter time than other cast members, since I've found that a lot of the time, the once plump Tracy's get a LOT thinner dancing all the shows. This is obvious with Leanne. And they can ask people to plump up, but it'd hard.
