This is one of the worst calls I have ever seen. He leaves his feet after the contact, which is legal. Neither of the refs had their arms in the air after the hit, which means one of the linesman, who was apparently on crack, made this call. This is what is known as a perfectly time hit. Havlat needs to realize this isn't soccer, his stupid fancy footwork is no match from being Kronwalled.
Im an Aussie and a massive MASSIVE fan of hockey (go wings) and i particularly enjoy big hits like this, and i thought some of you Americans might get a kick out of seeing some of the big hits we have in aussie rules footy. Chek out "BIG Football Knock Outs and Amazing Hits" and keep in mind we dont wear pads :P. It looks like to me his feet come up as he is making contact, as shown at 1:52. IF anything it would be a very iffy borderline 2:00 charging. Definitely not a 5:00 major! Then there are the Blackhawks jumping in to rough up Kronwall who just skated away. Should have been 4:00 in roughing to Chicago and at best, 2:00 to Detroit.

It does matter. He lead with the shoulder, and his skates left the ice by only maybe 1/4 of an inch, and that was long after he hit him. It's a penalty if he jumps into the hit, and he didn't.

@SixSalVal it wasn't a lateral or blindside hit, it was a straight north-south hit dingaling...besides the blindside hit rule wasn't in place when this hit was laid...that cat was moving straight up along the boards looking down at the puck and kronwall came straight down along the boards and hit him...TONS of analysts agreed it shouldn't have been a penalty at all, and if it was such an egrigious hit he would've been suspended, which he WASN'T...you, sir, do not know what YOU'RE talking about

It does matter. He lead with the shoulder, and his skates left the ice by only maybe 1/4 of an inch, and that was long after he hit him. It's a penalty if he jumps into the hit, and he didn't.

@SixSalVal Just about ANY check can be a charge based on referee discretion. Why isn't every check a penalty? Well, because that would suck and the league, refs, players and fans know it. You can find plenty of dirty hits, hits from behind, shoving somebody into the dasher, crosscheck from the blindside away from the puck. This hit is NONE of those. Kronwall lined up a guy trying to clear the zone and Havlat was asleep at the wheel, it's just that simple. So, I guess we can agree to disagree.
