It's the same backing track but the mixing (the levels of instruments) is different. I don't know why they just don't remaster the original version (including the 'missing verse), and then edit it. Today it is way easier to make a good edit than back then when you actually needed to cut the tapes. It must have been hell.
There are edits it the Spanish version, esp. round about where they sing "Ya" (I think) where "Queen" would normally be. The original 1976 mix (& subsequent Polydor transfer and Tretow remaster) have edits galore at this point in the song, and it's hard to say exactly why or how many. But DQ was a song they ummmed and ahhhed over for a long time before it was ready. I wonder whose idea it was to do a 4 verse Spanish song, and why it wasn't noticed at the time?! See my "Oro" video.
The Spanish fix (from about 1980?) sounds better than the 2004 "fix", probably because they were able to redo the vocals. It sounds like they overdubbed a different piano too?
Yes, I think they did. Out of all the Spanish versions, Dancing Queen has been remixed the most. The rest of them sound very similar to the English version. But apparently, both Bjorn and Benny had nothing to do with these versions, and only listened to them prior to release, so it may be a different pianist, or Benny's original performance re EQed or something.
@mozpiano2 The following is taken from Carl Magnus Palms 'complete recording sessions' . To set the scene, the following passage is talking about Bjorns and Janne Schaffers guitar overdubs on 27th August 1975. 'Those who wish to hear how th eguitar playing sounded, need only turn to the Spanish version of the song, the vocals were overdubbed on the original backing track and released in 1980. When remixing a track, it is impossible to get it to sound exactly like it did the first time'.
I think, that the spanish version is an early take/version of the instrumental with lyrics added later. Plus the spanish version has the missing verse omitted from the original english version. So this is the REAl thing no edit, no cut /paste to fix an edit and so on...
