I just wanted to point something out. You all seem to be arguing over who is and who is not Messiah and hateful words are being thrown at people, attacks are being made. Regardless of which religion and or sect is right or wrong (and I am not choosing sides, I am outside the argument), I just wanted to say that according to many traditions Messiah is a time of world peace. So stop fighting, and stop saying hateful words and then will be the time of the Messiah.

Also, the Rebbe never said that he was Mashiach. The Rebbe does in fact descend from the line of Dovid Hamelech-but lets let Hashem decide who Mashiach will be.
Also, there is a source in gemara that all students should believe that their Rebbe-whoever that may be-is in fact Mashiach. Some Lubavitchers may take that a little farther than they should, but don't judge an entire group of chassidim on the actions of a few.

Because most chabad chassidim that you say these things to will just get mad, they won't suddenly stop being Lubavitchers. So, there is no real reason to slander the Rebbe like that. It just causes a Chilul Hashem and it is pure lashon harah. The only One who has the power and truth to say who is 'bad' and who is 'good' is Hashem and announcing these opinions won't do you any good.

He never claimed to be Messiah. Eventually, people decided that he was. The split between the Lubavitch people came following his death, when some continued to believe he is Messiah, and others became furious with this idea. In what way has he ceceived any followers? Other than teach people to light candles and do the commandments? It is not a sin to accept adoration. He adored back.

wrong, if he was ordained to be the Messiah in his lifetime, he had the greatest potential to be so. The people are required to to crown their king, it is the people who choose the king, not the other way around. Regardless, there are videos of him waving away people who called him so, very early on.
