candy daily smoked 8 packs of cigarettes, consumed lollypops, candy bars, and even breath mints by the gross. chomped hard candies, gobbled many many hamburgers, munched pizza by the slice, swilled gallons of coca cola, the way other people drink one can of coke he did a whole bottle. consumed tons of french fries, breaded shrimp, breaded crabs, and even breaded clams. he ate everything! everything that is except fruits and vegetables! he had it coming pppffffttttttttt!
@AntiJuggalo1 Yeah I think Candy knew that he was facing an early death if he continued to abuse his health. I believe he was trying but I think the extremes in his last movie shoot may not have been the best to get his health together. He probably should not have accepted the job in retrospect.
poop, you idolized candy didn't you as the perfect reinaissance man you aspired to be like him thinking your life would be happy and finally get a date with a chick! however, you aren't even good enough to have carried candy's gigantic triple EEE boondockers complete with smelly socks. you can't even come somewhat close to his talent, lazy folks like you don't have the dedication to be a comedian or anything else for that matter. face it, you suck! you big dummy!
of all the dirty rotten people in the world who live many years longer than they deserve, we had to lose a genuine kind hearted soul such as john candy, the world can certainly be a cruel and unjust place
I started loving him so much!...He had the beautiful smile when he smiled tons!!...I am 43 now....Sad he died when he was 43!.........I have wished that I'd meet him or work with him so that would make me feel happy!....Yeah one day I meet him after I die....I hope so!..... Resting in peace....John Candy!
when john candy died so did a huge piece of the world no one could be as good of person as he was even if it was a bad day he could turn around and make things lighter
I still remember coming home from school that day, only to find out John passed away. I was totally floored. But it was nice to know he existed than not to know at all. A very, very gifted comedian, who made me proud to be Canadian. John, you are still missed.
My uncle used to be exactly like him :D he was funny, fat, and so positive! But his lovely personality was slowly drained away by my bitch of an aunt he married >:(
Even though I've only seen him in Home Alone and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles I think he was a very funny actor. It's sad how he died because he gave up smoking and tried to lose weight but unfortunately that wasn't enough for him.
There is only one John Candy. He is still missed till this day. He is my all time favorite actor. I plan on visiting his gave, this fall, to pay my respects. RIP Mr Candy.
@thunderstruck665 Yeah I know. I was just watching some of his SCTV stuff from 1978 (which I cannot put up unfortunately, poor Harold Ramis - there's so much GRATE footage of him Dialing for Dollars and other skits) but Candy was a crucial part of the SCTV -- Candy at his most sublime!!
man, i miss john. he is up there with chris farley. boy oh boy, the world truly does need more people like him. such a kind and wonderful person, such a wonderful person. i miss you john, rest in peace.
I love John candy he was my favorite actor when I was a little girl, he had one of those personality's that I just love, wish he was still here. He also looks alot like my brother who past away
Those five words really sum up John Candy very nicely: "The Bear Hug of Comedy". I think about him all the time. Unfortunately, the best ones always die. It's heartbreaking.
I often think about the last frame in the movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles. If you're a big fan of the movie, I'm sure you know what frame I'm talking about. That's what I remember. His big smile and warm disposition. I'll never forget John Candy -- one of the greatest actor/comedians in history.
I was two months shy of turning 11 when I heard the shocking news of John Candy's death. I grew up on his films, and he was always a favorite of mine, and I'll never forget the sheer disbelief I felt when I saw this. It was as if a close relative had died. He brought us all so much laughter for the short time he was with us. RIP John...
I felt i knew him when i saw a movie with him, of course i didnt, but i really wish i had. He represented so much kindness fun and intelligence that it would be very difficult fore someone to not love him.
Yes and i cant even say wich one of the movies he did i will count as the best, because they were all good. Three of them i rem. best is Planes Trains and Automobiles plus, Only the Lonely and Nothing but Trouble where Dan Aykroyd also was fantastic, especially that movie gave me nightmares. I rem. i tried to find a way out of Dan Aykroyds house so i had a chance to stay alive. John was fantastic as Dans "daughter", unbelievable funny.
It's funny but John did all these bit parts in Canadian movies that I remember, long before SCTV in the mid 70's. Alot of them were dramas too. I remember a film called "the Clown Murders" where he was a hesitant accomplice. I have a clip of him on King of Kensington (1977) where he plays a hapless armed robber. I should put it up.
what untimely death!

Decide on the completion of Wagons East? They should have left it alone and not bothered completing it. It was a very bad movie.
