  • Ry is a treasure

  • Fantastic post! Thanks.

  • Is that possibly Joseph Byrd directing?! The same Joseph Byrd who not only did the orchestral arrangements for the Jazz album (and its production), but who was also the big man behind the United States of America and the Field Hippies (bands that produced two of my favorite albums). Never seen the guy performing live on any video, so if it is him, this should be quite unique!

  • Ry is MY hero, absolutely amazing playing, and outstanding musicianship, boy I am absolutely sure the tracks he sat to with the rolling stones are taken to a much much higher level, into the unique category by his playing, and on top of everything he is MY hero because he did stand his ground when the greedy and conceited glimmer twins wanted to rip him off, HE TOLD KEITH TO SOD IT, a thing poor Brian should have done too, he'd be still alive, I love all is albums.

  • FANTASTIC.....this is so good, I have the album, to see this performance is the best present.

    thanks friends

  • Thanks so much for posting this and the others in the sequence.

I've got the "Jazz" album. I like it but find it a bit too cool and overproduced, and have often thought it would be so much better recorded live. Now by some miracle we have it here....

  • This simply brilliant musicianship by Ry Cooder. I was turned on to this album in 1985 by a friend who wanted to introduce me to the world of jazz, and it has become a staple in my life. My kids grew up listening to this and Big Bad Bill is our favorite tunes, what an awesome gem this is, especially to be introduced to american jazz. Nothin finer,

  • This is an incredible and priceless piece of American music history. I don't know where you got this from, but thank you so much for sharing it.

Has anyone heard the rumor that he completely disowned the Jazz album after it came out? Any truth to it?

  • Even if someone complains this video gives only "lip sync and play sync" to RC's Jazz album songs, thus the vid is entirely a FAKE, it will be hard for me to oppose against him or her.

The musical performance, of not only RC but also of all the players of the band, is so much perfect as to the recorded one!

    Just fantastic ...

  • Fantastic! Fantasy has become reality!

  • I've never expected "Big Bad Bill" and other "JAZZ album" songs to be visually played on the screen in my life.

How did you get those videos?

    It's completely amazing !!!

    And ....

    Mr. manchinman2929

    あなた日本人なんですね!

    こんなビデオ、どこから入手されたんですか !?

    驚き以外の何者でもない !?

  • Is there a video of this Sound Stage performance? If so, how and where can I buy it? Please Help!! I'm jonesing like crazy.

  • Wow. Fantastic, One of the best live shows I ever saw was Ry Cooder back in the 70's. Does anyone know if he ever performs live any more? What a great Americana musician. Love everything about his approach, taste & style.

  • Thats great, thanks for posting!

  • Hey, this is great !

  • Whhoaaaa!!!! "JAZZ" oNE OF THE BEST COODER'S RECORDS EVER!!!!!!! wHHHOOAAA

  • What a find!!

  • I remember this when it first aired. Great stuff! For those interested, contrast Ry's version of Big Bad Bill, with the old black-face performer Emmett Miller's 1929 version accompanied by Tommy Dorsey, Jimmy Dorsey, Eddie Lang and others.

Search YouTube for Emmett Miller. You'll find it.

  • wow , never heard Ry doing any of the jazz album before ,my favourite songs as well! what a gem . thanks for posting this

  • the best of the best nothing like Mr Cooder in american music

  • "Jazz" is one of my favorite Ry Cooder albums! Thank you for sharing this!

  • Thanks so much for posting this.. I listen/ listened to this album 1000's of times . Wish ry would sell this so I could pay for it. Would love to see the rest of the show as well. Sang this video before it goes...

  • Great stuff! I remember this from the original airing in 1978 and have always wanted to see it again. If you have the rest of the show I's sure like to see it.
