@benjamin... there is a predisposition to autism spectrum disorders when someone is born prematurely, I'm sure your inhumane early years didn't help, thus it is possible that you began improving due to your new nurturing home (just as children improve after some of the burden is spread from exhausted parents to parents and OT's & speech therapists).

I was diagnosed with autism before after I was removed from my birth family (3.5) and before entering my new one (4.5). I was not vaccinated (my birth family barely fed me), and they did not vaccinated me while I was in the institution because I had allergies to eggs. About 6 months after I was adopted I recovered from the egg allergy (I got other food allergies) and got vaccinated. Shortly after I started improving.

I was not vaccinated. I was a preemie (less than 1kg) and the notes from the hospital suggested I should not be vaccinated before reaching 6 kgs. After I reached 2.5 kg I was discharged and went to live with my birth family. They kept me in a cage-like crib, and only fed me potato crisps . They would not take me to a doctor because other sick children might get me sick.

Believe me, I was vaccinated after my autism diagnoses.

in the year preceeding my birth(1973) there was an industrial accident involving the fire retardant chemical PBB which was mistaken for a food additive given mostly to cattle.

This chemical crossed the placenta and permanently lives in everyone exposed including those who weren't born yet and causes amongst other things cancer, and nervous system disorders. It took them another year to even start cleanup.

My son was also functioning at a normal rate up until he had multiple shots at his 9 months and after that he had autism symptoms. NO we have 5 therapy sessions weekly. In any case, the important thing to remember, is whatever the diagnosis, don't just treat him as he has autism. Don't categorize him and treat him per that category. Just treat him as "him". (I think this goes for raising kids in general). He's not your "special needs child", he's your son. He may be a little more different from other kids, but if you can find his interests and use that as a bridge to help develop communication skills and social skills he will need to live in this world.

That's exactly what we do IHateMadeUpNames. We love him so much and like to treat him as an equal. He has two older brothers and we have to show them to talk to him correctly because sometimes they'll talk to him as if he was hard of hearing. I will admit though we tend to let him get away with a little more then his brothers. It's hard to resist that cute little face sometimes lol.

I don't know, this kid may just be "autism like". When I was a kid, I acted a lot like that. You pretty much had to get directly in front of me or nudge my head toward you to get my attention. I was diagnosed with ADD in the early 80s. The diagnosis might be different now had I presented now aged over 20 years less, and autism might be a proper diagnosis.

My father tells me my son has autism but I don't believe him. He doesn't talk much most of the time but sometimes he does.

He's says this is autism. My son deosn't almost talk to any adults sometimes not even to us, but when he's with other kids he plays, sings, dances, talks to ther kids, al though he talks to other kids his age he doesn't talk as clearly as other same age kids as his.

That, on its own, isn't enough to claim autism. Look for other common signs, like flapping the hands, rapidly shaking the head, rocking back and forth, stacking or lining up objects instead of playing with them, reluctance to use words like "I" and "you," extreme aversion to certain textures (my stepson hates the feel of fur) as well as difficulty maintaining eye contact. Of course, this is not comprehensive. If you're at all unsure, please take your child to a pediatrician.
