Austin was the bigger draw, consistently, night after night. Austin's drawing power held-up during repeated vists to the same georgraphical area. Hogan's didn't. I mean, geez, Hogan couldn't even draw at the SuperDome in New Orleans in 1987 with the JUNKYARD DOG (Louisiana-area legend) as his tag partner. The event drew 6,000 fans in a 78,000-capacity dome.

@MattSingh1 Dude, two different eras! Hogan sold out several stadiums including MSG MANY times all the while having little support from the undercard in the early 80's. Austin had megastars like the Rock, HHH, Foley, Taker, etc etc. that people wanted to see, as well.

In actual dollars, Austin likely did make more money in the WWE, but none of that would have been possible if Hogan didn't pave the way (along with McMahon).

Respect to Hogan. As retarded as he is today, he's a WWF legend.

'88). I'd say the fact that Hogan helped kill WCW probably gives the edge to Austin, as Austin helped WWE from bankruptcy to dominance.

What's the source of your facts? Austin broke Hogan's merchandising records but it's a different era, where there's other outlets for marketing (the internet being a HUGE game changer!).

Hulk Hogan put wrestling on the map. And in 1996, he ushered in the biggest boom and elevated another company to the top. Austin had a super supporting cast...

@MattSingh1 Also wanted to mention that the Attitude Era brought in fans who wanted to see the extremeness and sexuality more than wrestling. Notice how all those fans left once WWE changed. But you bring Hogan back, all his old school fans come roaring back. IMO, Hogan drew more life-long wrestling fans than anyone, anyone who's watched long enough would remember more Hogan moments than any others (i.e. Hogan/Andre, Hogan/Rock, Hogan joining nWo, etc.). It's all about the pioneer man- Hogan!

He had to drop the title to Warrior as he was uilt up as Vince's next big thing for a new decade but that didn't quite work out. Hogan was running out of steam by '91 and fully stagnated in '93 during his comeback. It was until '96 people gave a shit about him again when he turned heel and formed the nWO (which itself became a joke with so many splinter groups and version containing everbody, his brother, dog and wife).

Hogan should have retired in 2003, IMO after WMXIX,

People will never get into wrestling the way they did back in the mid '80s. Saturday Night's Main event was the best. It was usually sponsored by a beer (Coor's lite I think). Of course critics say channels were limited that is why it did so well.

I only liked Hogan when i was a stupid kid, but now that I'm older and wiser, I see his gimmick for the emptiness it really is. And his lack of talent and ability to sell. Slowness in the ring. Hogan was always a real top-notch act... When Vince turned on him, problems just grew and grew. However, seeing him getting pinned so many times was fun. I just couldn't believe how weak he was in the cluthces of guys like Zeus, Taker, and Yoko. And then the mightier Big Show spike slammed him so easily, pinning the aging legend.

How many times a guy got pinned did not really matter. If he kept coming back, then one had to cheer him. Storylines were best when the hero had to fight hard.
