I actually think there was a particularly famous case in Germany during the 1600's where they just completely mutilated this person they thought was a witch. Can't remember what it was called, but I know they had drawings of it.

Don't quite know why this particular trial became so colourful and famous. Maybe it was just the way the Germans did it instead of the standardised hanging/burning at the steak.
