Epinephrine is one of the best acute treatments for a severe attack and this can be IM or inhaled or subcutaneous w/e. ALSO, it is very important to tell patient not to take any type of cough suppressant because that will keep the mucous in the airways longer which can quickly make the attack worse. Note: W/ asthmatics you want them to cough to get the mucous out of the lungs.

I suffer from severe asthma attacks, sometimes it helps if the person goes into the bathroom and someone turns on the hot shower (don't put the person IN the shower) as the steam can help open up the airways enough to get some oxygen in. I live 45 mins from the hospital and this has helped me bide extra time for the ambulance to come. In one time particular it actually helped me from going into respiratory arrest. Thank you!!
I'm sorry to hear that you suffer so badly from this horrible disease. I appreciate your comments and taking the time to let me know that it may have been of some help. I hope that a cure for Asthma is quickly found.

@RoyonRescue I do have a question though....what is a bipap machine and how does it help an asthmatic during a severe attack? One medic put me on this and it helped a lot, but I don't understand exactly what it does or how it helps...Thank you!!! Maybe that is another video for you, lol
Hello, Thank you for your questions and taking the time to watch the RoyOnRescue episode. It has come to our attention that one popular brand of OTC epinephrine inhaler is now being removed from the shelves. this medicine will be phased out by December 31, 2011. Be sure to talk to your medical professional about how to manage your Asthma symptoms.
@champlinparkhs Wow! Sorry to hear about the asthma attack. It can be very scary and frustrating especially if you feel like you're not getting the care in a timely fashion. In your question regarding asthma attacks, when should you call 911? My opinion is that it's better to call 911 earlier than later. Consult with your physician or caregiver to see what they say, but from an emergency stand point, if you feel like it may be serious, it's better to call 911 right away.
