when i saw this production i really enjoyed it... i'm friends with clark (porgy) and i can truly say that he's fantastic not becasue we're friends...as an audience member the production was brilliant especially for a a younger generation, very jazzy and modern
well yes I knew what it was. I just didn't understand what kind of production it was. And after further investigation, I realized it's a musical. I'm used to the opera that's all :)
No latoyalewis I am going to have to correct you on that one, "Porgy and Bess" is indeed an opera by Gershwin. Watch Rattle's production of "Porgy and Bess" and you'll notice that just about everyone is an opera singer. It's got opera singers cause it's an opera, not the other way around.
I'm not sure you read my comment correctly barmanjoe, I actually said that I'm used to the opera...not that it's "an opera because it's got opera singers". I'm a opera singer so I think I should know that Porgy and Bess is an opera, period. So thanks but no thanks for the correction.
You meant that this particular production was a musical, I obviously commented before I groked in fullness what you had said. By the way I too am an opera singer. A bass baritone.
It's interesting I just got back home from a concert where I performed this piece, hence me watching it. It went really well, I was costumed and all, one downside though, I'm white hehehe
I hope McNulty doesn't see this.

What?! Haha...Thats quite interesting. Was it an all white cast or were you the only one?

Nah, it was just a concert where I sang it. I was the only singer there, it was a stand up comedy night.

you don't need to imagine- go see the show at the Savoy- beautiful, sensitive and cathartic - with a talented cast
