Dont compare the best science-fiction saga of the cinema´s history with a pirate saga which the first was good, the second normally, the third a big shit and i have´nt seen the fourth because i´ve fear of it.
you forgot about sao feng/barbossa as lando, gibbs as chewbacca , ragetti as c3p0 , pintel as r2d2, barbossa could sorta be obi wan too, becket would be the emperor
The Pirates movie was based on the classic Disney attraction. But Jerry (Buckheimer) wanted to make it more like a SW rip-off and less than what it's supposed to be. Y'know what Jerry will be remembered for?
He takes CLASSIC Disney stuff, that means so much to boys and girls of all ages, and turns them into action-packed summer blockbuster rip-offs!
POTC = Star Wars
The Sorceror's Apprentice = Harry Potter
The man WAS a film maker, but he lost it "a Long time ago, in a Galaxy far, far away....
dont forget R2-D2 and C-3PO. they got redone as those two pirates from barbossa's crew that r always together. the short, fat one and the guy with the glass eye. i think C-3PO loses his eye at one point too if i remember correctly..
I personally think that "Pirates" just borrowed elements from Star Wars, so it would be exactly a "ripoff". Besides, Star Wars was a ripoff of "Flash Gordon" and George just wanted to make that film.
I think Star Wars is the best i like pirates ,too but....................
um...................... Star Wars is the best oh there is a other one but i hate it indana jones [ think i spelled it badly ] it's because it is BORING. please put a "-" or a "+" BUT NO REPLY. STAR WARS is the best ever.
really great analogies( dont think i spelled that right:) i had to do a similar project on two books in english last year. its great to see some one who sees eye to eye with me, for i have drawn and recorded much of the same ideas shared in your video for me and my friends. again, great job!
Many of those characters are 'archetypes' which you'll find in thousands of films and novels. Used incredibly well in these two cases though. The situations aren't so easily recognisable although even the Death Star and Flying Dutchman will have echoes, allegorical or otherwise, in other fiction.
I must dissagree. though there are some verry distinct simmalarities i must say they are each unique and though i still enjoy pirates of the caribbean more, they are my two favorite movies. there is an actor connection though, the actor who played Count Dooku (or darth tyrannus) also apeared i charlie in the chocolate factory thus leading to Johny Depp who is the infamous Captian Jack Sparrow!!
I was waiting for the comparison between Beckett & Palpatine. I mean, manipulative, coldhearted antagonists that actually control the other bad guys that are ultimately destroyed by those things which they thought they controlled. It just begs comparison, does it not?
one huge difference between the two movies... Star Wars plot made logical sense and explained itself. That is, the characters' decisions were all justified by the action or dialogue. Pirates 2 and 3 moved from one rediculous idea to the next with a much weaker framework. The theme was still freedom, but noone really cared about the characters because we could not logically trace all their decisions. Pirates was more like a soap opera in that way. Quite illogical, and viscerally exhausting.
I am not sure of the song ... I just typed in POTC and found the song. I do believe it is looped and goes twice to get this effect. Thanks by the way.
Don't you just love Industrial Light & Magic? They did the special effects & animation for both. So no matter which one you like, George Lucas profits. Go GEEKS!!!
I deffinitely picked up on these similarities after seeing "Dead Man's Chest." Walking out of the theatre I thought, "That was a lot like 'The Empire Strikes Back'..."
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
what its really is is sadly and i love star wars sadly star wars is a huge rip off of batle star galactica mainly and every other sci-fi if the era and these days every movie if it be action mystery romance drama comedy ect.. turns out to be just another movie remade but with a twist and the really good remakes become movies like star wars and pirates
I disagree; lightsabers slice through metal cutlasses any day, and wooden ships don't hold up well to blasters. I don't care how fast the Black Pearl is, it can't break lightspeed.
I like both trilogies, but to say Pirates would win in a straight out fight is absurd. Emperor Palpatine's lightning would turn Davy Jones into crispy calamari.
I think that's a little bit of an insult to Chewy. There's also the fact that both Chewbacca & Gibbs know someone who comes aboard from a previous encounter, although those characters don't match up.
Yes, there are numerous similarities between the two trilogies. But I believe that they are more different than alike. The things that the two have in common are, as avonfoust said, archetypes. There are certain things that speak to human emotion, and these things are what make good movies as good as they are. Both trilogies exhibit these, as favorite stories always have and always will. So Pirates isn't a rip-off of Star Wars, it just does the same things right.
Well, if you have taken any sort of mythology, you'll notice that the similarities between these movies are actually mythological themes and archetypes, not rip offs of each other. You can pretty much take any movie trilogy, fantasy, or epic and find a lot of common similarities that trace back to ancient mythology. It is impressive that you were able to find these common within both movies, but I dare you to find their mythological roots.
Me neither ... until this that is. It took only a few hours to make this and days for it to spread. People everywhere are noticing the similar points. Thanks for the comment.

these characters and plots are the essence for a good story. also, jabba didn't send the bounty hunters after the falcon, vader did. davy jones/the emperor would be better, for the emperor is vader's master, and jones is turners captain.
Jabba still had bounty hunters after the Falcon's crew. See Greedo in ANH, Boba in ESB, Boba, Dengar, Beedo, Bossk, and various other members of Jabba's court in RotJ.
This is good I think Davy Jones is split in between Jabba and the emperor as he has a debt with jack and also holds Bootstrap as a henchman against his will. Also notice the costume differences in Luke and Will both changes clothing during the trilogy and both wear black in the final film.
What's the name of the music?
