  • Clara is the best <3

  • This is why i love WW2 and Great Depression History.

Because we still have survivors living from those times. I just find that all so fascinating.

Thank you for this, Clara. :)

  • love clara

  • My Grandmother made these with Vanilla extract..they didn't always have the other ingredients on hand.

  • I was ready to start crying here: my Grandmother 12/5/05 - 10/15/87 taught m,e how to make these when I was a little boy...I miss you Nana.

  • @MrLimborace Aw. I'm so sorry. :(

This video reminded me of my great grandmother who was born around the early 1900's. She's still alive though. 98 years old. I'll be devastated when I lose her.

  • I ship French cooking stuff all over the world and one of my favorites is apple cookers, you just add a whole apple, and they cook over a tealight candle. They are ceramic and people take them on vacation or students use them. Very popular in Europe, you can add sugar and spice or not. We also brew tea this way and you might think this is dumb, but when your power goes out these things are darn useful. I heat my French apartment and light it with candle lanterns during the winter. Cheap!

  • i wan' sum fried chikkin

  • 6 people dislike that Clara isn't their grandmother - any other reason is just madness, MADNESS!!!

  • This video shouldn't have one dislike people are so cruel, shes actually taking her time and dedication to please other people, this is just ridiculous. You are a true inspiration Clara, May God bless you.

  • Clara looks great in Red.

  • @nevaminful pedo

  • Happy Birthday Clara! You are such a blessing to so many people!

  • Nutritious?

  • @wung97 Compared to any modern dessert? Yes. No artificial flavouring or colouring and no conservatives. The only unhealthy stuff is the sugar, but one tablespoon is only 12 grams which isn't going to kill you! Cinnamon is really healthy too:-)

  • @wung97

    It's a joke... jeez

  • Grandmas are such culinary geniuses!

  • Favorite recipe of yours. Thank you for sharing!

  • I love you clara!!

  • Although Clara is very different from my own grandmother (she was part sugar & sweets and part viking will power), she makes me miss her very much. :(

  • she makes me smile :)

  • oh yum i love apples

im going to try this one

  • @cherd1971 eww. ur fat

  • @gigglyanastasiya eww you have really big teeth

  • my eyes are full of tears, to youth out here, you should really take heed to this because here is what you call ''a real woman'' god bless her heart. she can cook, clean, healthy, sweet, busy, she gets things done. at 94 she is still at it., a true definition of a woman, she is so cherished and probably don't know it, she probably don't care either. woman like this don't need to fit in or pretend, they are home-makers with purpose, wisdom, this woman along with my grandma are geniuses.

  • @BaptistGiirl A women is simply a human who has female sexual organs...

She is simply a great person.

  • @rangergxi yes, post that on this wonderful video...

  • @BaptistGiirl So say we all!

  • My mother made these for us kids when I was growing up. Easy and cheap dessert - a bit healthier than apple pie.

  • a slap a piece n' that would settle it, HAHAHAA...i luv it !!

  • Couldn't she just eat the apples?

  • Miss Clara , I love you ! God Bless you in this world for many many more years !

Thank-you mam for posting this video.... :)

  • Deeeelish !!

  • my grandma and grandpa lived through the depression and they said theyd mix cinnamon and sugar and then put some butter on some toast and put some cinnamon and sugar on the toast and eat that for any meal and now i do that its frikkin AMAZING!

  • @aqualad22 I grew up on this toast too. We buttered the bread and sprinkled first with sugar then with cinnamon (no need to mix them), then they went in the oven. Top was toasted and bottom was soft. To me, it's still the best cinnamon toast.

  • @gmaureen I make that for breakfast a lot :)

  • @SimpliztixX You just lost a fiver...

  • SIMPLY ADORABLE!!! I'M IN LINE FOR A BAKED APPLE!!!

  • i love how she says its a hassle when he doesnt have the tool and its a hassle and whe she finishes putting the butter shes like thats all there is to it

I grew up on a lot of the same type of food and recipes that Clara cooks and talks about here. I am glad I found this channel. It's the best! =-) thank you Clara

  • OH BOY I WISH I WAS IN THE GREAT DEPRESSION...wait what I am I saying?

  • thank you- I showed my 7th grade students your video and tomorrow we are making the baked apples in class. The students are very excited!

  • This reminds me of cinnamon and sugar on sliced apples when i was a kid :D fond memory's.

  • Hi there. My kids and I just watched this! My 6 year old daughter Evelyn says, "I loved it; can you teach me how to bake it with my mom and my brother so that we can eat it? We think it looks delicious. Do you live in Maine or Africa?" So that's that from Evelyn :) And my 5 year old son Bo says, "I loved the apples." haha! Thanks so much for sharing your recipes with us all :)

  • Depression? What Depression? All I see are baked apples...munch munch...mmmm...

    10 minutes later...

    *staring at empty plate*

    This is pretty depressing...

  • OMG - all these remind me of my grandma, she was a "depression mom" herself, we would have "fried bolony sandwiches" us kids knew them as flying sauer sandwiches.. I love watching her show's

  • Nice lady. I like the radio on the counter with the "pretties" on top. 1:42

  • I can imagine this would be a great dish for a busy parent to prep at night in a crockpot for a cold winter's breakfast.

  • My sons grew up with me making this dish! Its so easy and makes the house smell so good!! Thank you for reminding me to make them again Cora! xo

  • Love her she is awesome!!!!!This is very healthy:)

is it syrup in the end that she puts on the baked apples????

  • @lalakimmie19 It's what's left of the apple's flesh and juice mixed with butter mixed with cinnimon sugar.

  • i have my laptop in the kitchen. I am currently making it right now.

  • @RebeckaMichelle

    me too!

  • YES! Wake up Foodnetwork!!

  • If I was a tv producer, I would honestly put her on television. Clara is amazing! God Bless you.

  • nutritious?.... come on... thats an apple filled with suger, butter and cinamon... i highlý doubt the nutritiousness of that dish...

it doesn't look very good neither, but im sure that once tasted, you've proven me wrong :)

people were alot more creative back in the day.. i have never seen such creativity in cooking as i have wacthing clara :)

  • @Jakzerstoren isn't it better to have a baked apple filled with sugar and butter than a slice of chocolate mousse pie? mehh why does there always have to be the jerk who says something.

  • @Jakzerstoren its just apple pie without the crust. they are very good

  • @Jakzerstoren people forget that sugar, butter, & cinnamon are natural ingredients. Cinnamon is a spice & holds only a meager amount of calories. People forget that sugar & butter are necessary in moderation as well. They do have their place on the food pyramid. The body requires both fats and simple carbohydrates, along with complex carbohydrates and proteins.

Please, unless you have some form of nutritional education, do not comment on what you don't understand.

  • @Jakzerstoren Listen to people like her with experience. They were MUCH healthier than we are now.

  • @halflife103 they are not much healthier than our generation. all clara's cooking looks really good, but they are very greasy and unhealthy

  • @bb33nnii no they were healthier. Because they got exercise and actually worked, plus they did not have anything like Mcdonalds or the Governments propaganda on food and preservatives and what not.

  • @halflife103 im 16 turning 17 and to be honest, i have no idea how unhealthy feels like. being on the track team and in an asian family, i get more than enough exercise and have pretty decent healthy meals. im not trying to brag, but i always thought eating greasy or or stuff with alot of sugar is bad for your health. its not that they were healthier back in the depression. i think that people are too busy today to get their exercise. they have work, school, ect.

  • @bb33nnii America never used to be the most obese country in the world. this all happened because of your "convenient" technology which only makes us lazy. Way back in the 30's everyone would play outside every day. Now we don't. I mean, they were not medicly healthy but physicly healthy. Back then it still would have been more of natural selection that kept us healthy. but now with medical science we are only as healthy as the chemicals or medicine we have. We are not doing so well.

  • YOU ARE SO CUTE, LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS!!!!

  • I love that bit at the end. "They are nutritious" *slowly raises finger to mouth* XD

  • @sweetcyanide218 haha yeah, that gave me a good chuckle!

  • @sweetcyanide218 That was some cool move hehe

  • My great grandmother's nearly 100 and never learned how to drive a vehicle0, since she can barely walk it makes movement virtually impossible.

  • that's a perfect dessert after being outside in the ice and cold and wind. just hunker down with some warm baked apples

  • clara you are just wonderful thanks for sharing your knowledge. my italian grandmother was an amazing cook who took some secrets with her to her grave :-(

but i also enjoy making my own new great meals. i am an artists and we never have money. and so seeing you is an inspirring for me.

    god bless you clara

  • love this. I am trying it right now. They are baking as I type. :) yum.

  • you are such a sweetheart, i wish i had a great grandmother like you <3!

  • So simple and so delicious!

  • This is so much more than cooking simple, inexpensive meals. Its about learning from older people in our families who have so much life experience, and that older people can be very active well into their 90s and beyond. Watching Clara should make us all appreciate the older people we have in our lives who teach us so much. Reading about the Great Depression is one thing. Hearing about it first hand from someone who lived it is another.

  • Awww, I love watching Clara cook!

  • Clara, you are adorable. I love your shows. The apples are awesome, as are your pepper and egg sandwiches! God bless you!
