  • Thank you, it helped me much, because I wanted to do a PiP with the effect of getting smaller and smaller and it helped me a lot.

  • O and by the way. How do i zoom out instead?

    Cheers.

  • @justin20877 Start by placing a keyframe on the first frame of the video, with the image zoomed it. Then put a keyframe where you want to zoom out to. See my other youtube videos, with 'pan and crop' in the title.

  • Easy. Elaborate and on point.

    Most appreciated.

  • that's simple and helpful! thanks

  • Wow thanks!!!!

  • Thank you so much!

  • Thank you so much :)

  • Thank you sir. Great help.

  • Can you help us there are 2 black bars on each side of the photograph, how do you get rid of it?

  • @tiffanyandkacey123 Set your project properties correctly. Then click on the pan and crop icon on the photo in the timeline. Then right click in the center of the pan & crop window. Then choose 'match output aspect'.

This will zoom so there are no black bars on the photo.

  • @guerillabill Omg. Ur amazing. THANK YOUUU

  • Thank you, that solved my problem

  • Can you help me with one thing. When you do zoom how do you can it instant?

  • @losebow See my YouTube video, 'Creating Instant Zoom with Sony Vegas Movie Studio'

  • @guerillabill THANK YOU

  • Good vid.

  • how about if u want to do that to a video?

  • @foreverkhin Works the same way when zooming into video.

  • extremely helpful, just I wanted to know thanks so much :) favourited it! :D

  • Can you help me with something... I was making movies earlier today and my video was fine I didn't need to zoom in... But now when I started vegas movie studio it's zoomed in really close to my face and I went into the zoom in crop to see the problem it's all in the right spot but for some reason it's zoomed in can you help me.

  • @Noobtechguy Zoom and crop is good for zooming and panning video, but it won't 'unzoom' video that has been zoomed it when shot with a camcorder.

  • very helpful tutorial, thank you very much!

  • thankyou

  • can you do this with video as well?

  • @MrVarhansen Yes, you can zoom and pan & crop video as well as photos. Same process, nice results.

  • Thanks for all you tuts. I've ordered your 101 tips. Can't wait

  • Thanks for video. It helps.

  • thanks , your tutorials are always very easy to understand

  • thanks. very simple and easy to understand tutorial. unlike some on here that make it difficult to follow.

  • I've noticed that when you zoom or crop video/pictures it becomes more blurry and distorted. Is it possible to zoom or crop with out loosing picture resolution?

  • @JDBCreations Start with a higher resolution image, and when you zoom it won't become blurry

  • This is really helpful. Thankyou :)

  • great turtorial sir....

i learnt a lot from this ...basic and initial tips as im very new in vid editing. thanx a lot

  • I cant move the F left or right, only up and down. Why is that?

  • @VocaloidGirlx You need to click the 'move freely' icon in the pan & crop toolbar.

See how to do this in my YouTube video 'Solve Pan & Crop problem in Sony Vegas Movie Studio '

  • @guerillabill

    Oh, thank you :D

  • But how do I zoom in quickly ? Like it goes intor the zoom Directley and not like takes that time to zoom .. ? Please reply :) THX

  • @ZembasTutorials Use the keyframe timeline in the pan & zoom window, and create a keyframe where there is no zoom, and another keyframe where the zoom should be full. The distance between the keyframe determines the time the zoom takes. For instant zoom, have the keyframes very close to each other.

  • how do u zoom out?

  • @LiquidPain45 Start with an image larger than the source video, then use pan & zoom to move the zoom window out to the edge of the image.

  • Does someone knows why i can't move the circle with the F in to where i want?

    Thx and response pls

  • Currently, I use Powerdirector, which is very easy to use. Been thinking about picking up Sony Vegas Movie Studio Pro 9 Platinum Pack. Will the transition between editing programs be easy? Will I like Sony Vegas better? thanks.

  • @jayarcidiacono I find Sony Movie Studio Platinum to be very easy to use, very stable, and a reliable video editing, DVD Authoring package.

  • wow tahnks man

    subbed

  • Another AMAZING video tutorial - THANKS! Just tried this with both a photo, as well as, a video clip. Worked 100% for both image & the video clip in Sony Vegas Pro 9.0b. Many, many thanks from Canada.

  • THANK YOU! you're a life saver!

  • I'm using vegas movie studio and i can't find the crop/pan icon.

  • @kuroiyuki2 The pan crop icon is always shown on the timeline, in the lower right corner end of a video event in the video timeline

  • thanks! helped alot ^o^

  • Great !!! Thank you !!! You are so clear! I enjoy your videos!!

  • thanks it helped

  • great vid again bill! helped out a lot.

  • I am using sony vegas 7 and for some reason I can't move the center of the "F" thing at all, I can move the corners of the selection ok, but the center point won't budge but merely a tiny bit to the left and right , it won't freely movie. Any ideas?

  • See my YouTube video, 'Solve Pan & Crop problem in Sony Vegas Movie Studio'

  • Great tip, but I have a problem. I still can see the black background behind the picture whi zooming, does anyone know how to fix it?. I just want to see only the picture zooming in the screen.

  • Find the answer in my YouTube video, 'Solve Pan & Crop problem in Sony Vegas Movie Studio'

  • duh!

  • This really helps! Thanks.

  • Good tip. To think, all of these years I have been animating it like a cartoon! This is why I never bothered with pics in my videos. Thanks.

  • how do u make it so that when you zoom in it doesn't like zoom slow it just goes right to where you zoomed in immediately

  • Use two keyframes, one frame apart.

The first will have the full size image, the second will have the zoomed image.

    This creates an instant zoom.

  • OMG!! thanks buddy you rock!

  • hi there , i m making a video in widescreen and when i try to zoom it , the widescreen zooms too... i mean it doesnt stay as a wide screen.i just want the film to zoom and want the widescreen to remain as it is.

may be the way i made my widescreen is false.i hope u got what i m trying to say.and theres another effect i want to learn.its the continuous flash lights.like when the music beats fast i want to add that effect.may be u can help me.

thank u and your videos are really really helpful.

  • U can lock the wide screen so that it doesn't stretch width and height freely, it only moves both at the same time, its an obvious button at the left.

  • My question should be here... So I will repeat it...

This tutorial has pan's too... so you did it, like the way that you are teaching us, or that program that you used to record allows you to make that pans of the screen?

Thank you... and I am sorry to ask again... :P

  • I use Camtasia to record this screencasts, and the Camtasia editor has the ability to pan and zoom

  • I've found that zooming in or out of photos with areas of high contrast creates an unattractive shimmering effect. Does Vegas Movie Studio automatically reduce image resolution - even for 3MB pictures - to a level that it can cope with? Microsoft's humble Windows Movie Maker produces much better resolution results, though it's not as feature-packed. I've been looking for an answer to this problem for many months without success. Please can you help?

  • 1.- Right-click on each photo and select "properties", the check the "reduce interlace flicker" option.

2-- SV doesn't adjust img. resolution automatically. If you are going to zoom, then crop your photos to a max of 2x the video size, although the closest to 1x video size the better and less flickering.

3.- Avoid or edit photos with heavy contrasts in edge areas, that will create flickering.

  • Grat video man love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for the comments.

And yes, you can use different transititions between photos. If you have Vegas Pro, you'll find scripts that can add random transitions between each photo.

  • so simple but so useful, thanks a lot

  • Thanks alot

  • Thanks but does this work zooming out as well, or different?

  • Yes, you can zoom in or out or sideways or up or down.

You can also change the speed and direction of the zoom using keyframes

  • thanks i tried to do it but when i play my video it doesn't zoom in thanks alot!

  • Be sure to put a keyframe at the end where you have zoomed all the way in.

If you fail to put a ending keyframe, no zoom will occur.

  • i would suscribe to you if you had more advanced tutorials

  • THANK-YOU SO MUCH!

  • i cant get the f to move were ever i want it just goes up and down and left to right

  • In the Event Pan & Crop click the bottom icon in the left toolbar of the Pan & Crop window, it looks like a cross hair.

That icon controls pan movement settings. You can set it to just Y (vertical), just X (horizontal_, or move freely.

Click to set it to move freely

  • hey thanksfor the tutorial, but i got a problem, i tried to focus in on something, but my zoom only goes left and right, not up and down. what should i do?

  • In the Event Pan & Crop click the bottom icon in the left toolbar of the Pan & Crop window, it looks like a cross hair.

  • Bill, why is it that I was able to use the event pan and crop feature, now when I click on that buttom, absolutley notihng happens? Any solutions ? Thanks !

  • When features seem to disappear in Vegas, it usually means you have docked the feature behind another window.

See my youtube video on how to find lost windows in Vegas to find out how to recover these lost features.

  • can you do this with videos too?

  • Yes, you can zoom and pan videos. It is the exact same process.

  • Okay, you helped me alot, but now when I try it it won't let me move the zoom box up or down, just side to side. Can you help me??

  • In Event Pan & Crop, the 7th icon in the left tool bar window controls range of motion.

You can set it to allow only vertical, only horizontal, or free form motion.

To change it, just click on the icon.

  • Thank you so much!

  • When you say under $80, i checked it, its ALWAYS 1 or 2 stars, soooo can I trust em?

I really want sony vegas but... its too expensive.

  • Find it on Amazon or New Egg. For best price on Vegas Pro, get the upgrade version from B & H Photo

  • is Sony Vegas Free?

  • No. You have to pay for it. Find it on Amazon for under $80.

  • Ive tried doing it but when I play it back, its really rough and just jumps instaed of actually zooming in smoothly

  • When you play it back in the preview window, it will be rough - because the preview window doesn't do a frame by frame render during a live preview.

If you render it out to a file and view it, it should be silky smooth - assuming you started with good source video or photo.

  • Ah you are right thanks. Im just curious tho, is this computer related or will it do this for every computer because its a preview window?

  • Vegas doesn't do background rendering which means when viewing video effects via the preview window, the effects are rendered in real time.

For that reason, the preivew is not as smooth as it would be in the final render.

A faster, more powerful computer will help, but still won't full resolve the preview display issue.

You can use 'selectively pre-render' from tools to render selected events on the timeline and then preview them, and they should be quite smooth.

  • Thank you so much, great Vid

  • OMG thank you sooo so so so SO much!

  • thanks man you are cooool

  • wow this helped alot! seemed so simple! thanks! im still new to sony vegas so ill look out for ur videos =)

    good job Bill myers.

  • thanks=)

  • THANKYOU!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks! This helped alot for my coming music videos, hehe.

  • Ty man u helped me a lot with my game videos...

  • Can you zoom in on videos the same way?

  • Yes, you can. You can zoom videos using event Pan & zoom just as easily as zooming still images.

  • Thanks!

  • hi i need help with what u did at 1:24 when i try to move it it only allows me to go up and down please respond fast

  • In Event Pan & Crop, the 7th icon in the left tool bar window controls range of motion.

You can set it to allow only vertical, only horizontal, or free form motion.

To change it, just click on the icon.

  • thanks so much

  • Hi

if i want to nake zoom for only 5 seconds and then it come back to the original size of the video??

  • Set keyframes in the timeline within event Pan & Crop to set the amount of zoom, and the length the zoom appears on the screen.

  • I got an older version of Move Studio, (4.0) is there anyway you know how to zoom there? Or is it simply that way that you can't?

  • Sorry, I only have Movie Studio 6,7 & 8. Don't know what Movie Studio 4 can do.
