The real genius of this work is that the audience is given an expectation going in simply based on the title. There is NO WAY of knowing what is going on outside of the frame. Ergo, the viewer PRESUMES what is happening, when in REALITY all they see is a face. ANYTHING or NOTHING is happening, but all expectations are met by showing nothing.

I met Andy back in the 1970's...yes, he was very different. Quite shy in public. One could tell that he was always sizing up certain guys. Me, being one of those people.
The original guy was supposed to be Charles Rydell but he backed out saying to Warhol that he thought he was joking when he said 5 guys would blow him while he filmed. Devern Bookwalter is credited as the guy with Willard Maas as the offscreen actor who blows him. The film suggests he may be acting or he may be getting a real blow job. As the voyeur, you decide.
I'm not so sure it would be considered art if this film was shot by any else (who would never become famous). But, I do realize what is and is not art is entirely subjective.

@Qrstnce his early work is more traditional. he was a brilliant illustrator. he was an artist since he was a child. you have to give credit to the guy for walking the fine line between art and commercial nonsense; not too many other artsists had the balls to do that. i'm not saying he was a genius, but the man was damn intellegent, if not a bit manipulative.

The real genius of this work is that the audience is given an expectation going in simply based on the title. There is NO WAY of knowing what is going on outside of the frame. Ergo, the viewer PRESUMES what is happening, when in REALITY all they see is a face. ANYTHING or NOTHING is happening, but all expectations are met by showing nothing.

This may come across as blasphemy, but has anyone put this to music? I randomly watched this while listening to David Bowie's Sweet thing/Candidate/Sweet thing Reprise and fits eerily well. Not perfectly, but it's interesting all the same to see it with a different perspective.

The original guy was supposed to be Charles Rydell but he backed out saying to Warhol that he thought he was joking when he said 5 guys would blow him while he filmed. Devern Bookwalter is credited as the guy with Willard Maas as the offscreen actor who blows him. The film suggests he may be acting or he may be getting a real blow job. As the voyeur, you decide.

Many of his early movies are really focused on something for so long, some people will turn away after about 3 to 7 seconds.
